Whatis the trigger to get the DVR with the larger hard drive

Is it decided by viewing package or just adding the HD services to the order? Only DVR that will work for us is the one with the larger hard drive. The U300 package has all that we are interested in along with the HD services and added HD channel, not really to up on ordering the U450, it just depends on what triggers the DVR with the larger hard drive.

Also, seems there is a new charge on a new order now, seeing a line for IPTV Service Activation fee for a one time charge of 29.00 - any idea what this is?

You're suppossed to get it on a new install w/u450 or any other package w/HD.  Some current users

have had trouble getting one, others haven't. :smileywink:

Edit: Many prem techs only carry larger hard drives on their trucks so everyone gets one.

AT&T technicians have stated that the DVR's with the larger hard drives are automatically given to new customers who have the HD service regardless of the package they subscribe to.

Re: Whatis the trigger to get the DVR with the larger hard drive

Anytime a tech needs to come to your residence to work on a problem....you can ask for a new DVR with the larger HDD.   It's my understanding that, if you order a visit specifically to switch out to a new DVR with bigger drive, you will be  charge for the trip.  I don't know how much that is....but I've seen $50 mentioned.  Now....in our case....we got lucky and our DVR conveniently became infected with intermittent problems.  So I called in and a tech was sent to our home to replace it.  We took this opportunity to get the one with the bigger HDD.  No problems.  No extra charge.  Just had to make sure we had watched all the programs that we had recorded on the old one because there apparently is no way to transfer the recordings to the new DVR.  We have been subscribers for just over two years and our package is the U-400+ with HD and HD premium added on.

Like what has been said previously, just request for the bigger DVR from the tech once he is there at your house to do install/repair.

You cant put up that request with a rep, they may tell you that it will be included but that's just saying, its really up to the tech if he has one on his truck.

The DVR capacities are as follows:

Motorola VIP1216:   160 GB HDD        133 SD hrs or 37 HD hrs

Cisco IPN430:         160 GB HDD        133 SD hrs or 37 HD hrs

Motorola VIP1225:   250 GB HDD         233 SD hrs or 65 HD hrs

Cisco IPN4320:       320 GB HDD         311 SD hrs or 87 HD hrs

If you don't know what type of DVR you have, go to the TV connected to your DVR and navigate as follows:  Options --> System Options --> System information --> System info.  You will see the type of DVR listed after Set-Top Box/CPU:

As well i think ATT DVR has a spot for a thumb drive so you may be able to use a removable device to increase your storage

Have spoken to a number of ATT people - have gotten 30 different answer on getting the largest hard drive dvr and it just seems to be luck of the draw - if the installer has one on the truck, if the moon is in the 7th house and jupiter is aligned with mars you have a 10 percdnt chance of getting one. Unfortunately I po'd the goddess of worse and got the smaller HDD DVR, this in itself has doomed the retention of UVerse as my families TV medium of choice.

HDD space is the second largest short coming in the service, 87 hours of record time for HD shows shared between multiple sets, 3 kids and a wife that all have different viewing habits is woefully short. I suspended a Directv service that cost me less, had multiple DVR's with the ability to add 2TB Esata drives for a total of close to 522 hours of HD recording, now with the advent of open Beta for Multi-room viewing I will probably be moving back to Directv in about 30 more days.

other then the limited recording space, Uverse works well here, HD PQ is of a lower quality then what was delievred by Directv, but marginally acceptable. Will probably keep the internet because that is working and is of a lower cost then what I was using prior.
