Port forwarding not working

Anyone tell me how I can get port forwarding to work? The only way it seems to work is to set the device on the DMZ. The second selection where we pick the application specific port on thre firewall doesn't work. And then if you DMZ, its address becomes the IP of the router removing it from local access.....

Can anyone help? I never had this kind of trouble with COX cable...

I'm ready to toss U-Verse, if I only had another option.

Please NO SD stretch-o-vision or 480 SD HD Channels
1-800-983-2811 to avoid Mr. Voice Recognition
YRMV IMHO
