2WireRealtime.exe

I released 2WireMRTG.exe yesterday, to allow MRTG to get statistics off the 2Wire 3800HGV router.  That release was in this thread.

I realize that many people cannot set up MRTG because they don't have a server to run it on, or would not want to go through the hassle of that much configuration.  I therefore am releasing this tool, 2WireRealtime.exe, which is a stand-alone application to view data rates and information from the U-Verse RG.  This program will not graph trends over time nor store data, but it will give instantaneous snapshots of activity on the RG.

This program is very easy to use, just download and double-click.  The program does the rest.  There is no installer, no registry entries are made.

There is an extensive ReadMe file that explains all the particulars of the statistics that are displayed.

Note: This program REQUIRES RG firmware v6.1.9.24 (the newer version rolling out now).  It will not work if your RG is currently running the older firmware (v5.29.105.94).

The program is downloadable from here.

Totally out did yourself!  Great program! Outstanding ReadMe follow up. I can't remember the last time I typed 5 pages.:smileyvery-happy:

Thanks for your time and effort to benefit us all. So much information with a click!

I would agree with Doneer that a good, better, best would be way cool.

Joe,

Great program. So much better than having

to dig thru the RG screens.

Numbers are a great thing to have BUT;

Is there any way you can show in your readme

file a range of  "GOOD BETTER BEST" values

so that we don't have to get to deep into

the subject of the fields that you provide?

EXAMPLE;

                               GOOD         BETTER        BEST

Power Level          nn-nn            nn-nn          nn-nn

I don't have it in the ReadMe, but I made this post a while back that has a lot of that type of information in it.

I'll put this info in the ReadMe in a later version.

I need a favor.  I'm an all Cat5e installation, so I have no coax, and no HPNA stats on my RG.

Can someone with more than one coax-connected STB please do the following:

Please pull up http://192.168.1.254/xslt?PAGE=C_2_5 in a web browser.  (If your RG is not at 192.168.1.254, replace that IP address with the IP address of your RG).

Do the following:

1. Right-click somewhere within the web page and select View Source (Internet Explorer) or View Page Source (Firefox).

2. In the window that pops up, click in it and hit Ctrl-A to select all text, and Ctrl-C to copy the text to the clipboard.

3. Create a new reply here on the UTalk forum in this thread.  Click the code button (looks like this:   ) in the toolbar.  In the window that pops up, hit Ctrl-V to paste the HTML source code.

4. Click the Insert button to insert the code into your reply post.  Then click the Post button to post your reply.

I need to be able to see this page so that I can write code to parse it.

Thanks.  Yes, the forum has a posting limit that this source code exceeds, but it seems that in a PM, it works fine.

I have several samples now and they will help me add a new feature to 2WireRealtime.

2WireRealtime v1.1.1.0 is released.

The program (.zip archive) may be downloaded here, or if you're already running v1.1.0.0, it will auto-update at startup if you have the "Enable Auto Update at Startup" checkbox checked in the Configuration tab.

Fixes and New Features

  • Fix bug in recommended profile calculation. Program was always reporting 32/5 profile as recommended even when the line would not handle it.
  • Fix bug in FEC overhead ratio - was reporting value for 32/5 profile even when actual profile was 19/2 or 25/2.
  • Added high-contrast highlighting user preference.
  • Add Ideal/Typical/Service Limit values for profile parameters in ReadMe.txt.
  • Add estimated VRAD distance calculation to Profile and Errors section.
  • Add frequency display for mouse pointer hover on Bitloading graph.
  • Improve accuracy of data rates on Interfaces page.

As always, please post here with any comments or bugs.

I was told I was 750 and get 300 on this.  Wonder which is closer, not that it matters to me because I'm not having issues:

The estimated distance from the VRAD is a pure estimate.  It derives the distance from empirical data from my own survey here in the Data/Stats Collection and Line Stats Analysis thread, as well as from the Dohrenburg site.

It's only roughly accurate.  By my calculations, it's accurate to +/- 400 feet for 95% of users.

So if your display is showing 300 feet, there is a 95% probability that your actual distance is between 0 and 700 feet.

Also, the reported estimated distance is rounded to the nearest 100' interval.  Thus, if the calculated distance comes out to be 1327', then the value shown in the display is 1300'.

You also have to remember that the U-Verse premises techs use a meter that also estimates the distance using VDSL signal parameters.  So if the premises tech told you that you were 1525' from the VRAD, that number itself has a certain error to it, probably 100-200', meaning that your actual line distance could be anywhere from 1300-1700'.  The only AT&T employees who have a meter that is very accurate for distance are the line techs (I&R group), who have a device called a Time Domain Reflectometer (TDR).  This device is accurate to 10 feet or so.  But most U-Verse premises techs don't have one of these.

The TDR is also the gold standard for detecting bridge taps.  All other ways of detecting bridge taps are estimates and may have varying degrees of accuracy.

Downloaded the new program, but it does not seem to work correctly with an FTTP.  When I execute the program a window comes up with the whats new info.  After selecting the Ok button the main page displays and while gathering statistics a window comes up and informs me the page has stopped working.  The text says "A problem caused the program to stop working correctly.  Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available.

Hi Ronald,

There were some pretty extensive changes in the code for this version, and one of those changes may have broken something.

Please do the following to get the HTML source code from your RG, this will help me troubleshoot:

There are 4 different URLs of information that I need:

1. http://192.168.1.254/xslt?PAGE=C_1_0

2. http://192.168.1.254/xslt?PAGE=C_2_0

3. http://192.168.1.254/xslt?PAGE=C_5_3

4. http://192.168.1.254/xslt?PAGE=C_0_0

Copy each of these URLs into your web browser one at a time and hit enter.  (If your RG is not at 192.168.1.254, replace that IP address with the IP address of your RG).

For each URL, do the following:

Once I have this info, I can see what's going on.  Thanks in advance.

I only read back a few pages, so dont flame me too bad here.

First,  Joe, your calculations on the distance of loop length are pretty close. I will look more into the 2wire program, but I know that the Prem techs meters are using somewhat of a TDR, but not nearly advanced as the line guys have. The line one shows the graph and you can see the taps and splices and stuff. The prem techs meter uses an estimate of 26 gauge wire. It could be 26, 24, 22, or a combination of them between the house and the VRAD. The meter is usually about 300 feet off. Dont let the loop lenght fool you though, the loop length is just an estimate as to how far the signal will go. It depends on how much signal is comming out of the VRAD. That can vary from 60meg to 75 meg. The accurate way is to know the capacity in ohms. To find that out, you much short the pairs and put a ohm meter on the other end. Poor service occurs after about 190 ohms. Some techs will not install over 185. 200 is the cut off though.

Second, Ronald. If you are FTTP, the realtime will not work. There is no bits loading graph for FTTP. The graph shows noise, and there is none with light. I tried to run it on mine(FTTP as well) and it failed also.

I see nothing said that would get you flamed. It was a well stated informative post.

Hope you add a few 00s to your post totals with posts like that over time.

As was stated earlier, FTTP functionality has an error in this version.  As soon as I fix the bug, the program will work on FTTP connections just as it did previously.  Ronald posted his HTTP source code at my request so that I can fix this problem.  I'm well aware that there is no bitloading for FTTP connections, but the IP addressing area and interface data rates still work and are still useful.

Look, I don't want to flame and I know you're new around here, but you might want to let me explain the features and functions of my own program, especially when you freely admit you haven't read the entire thread.

Looks like I dont know what I am talking about anyway, so I will just keep my 2 cents out of it from now on. Sorry to upset the master.

2WireRealtime v1.1.2.0 is released.

The program (.zip archive) may be downloaded here, or if you're already running v1.1.x.x, it will auto-update at startup if you have the "Enable Auto Update at Startup" checkbox checked in the Configuration tab.

Fixes and New Features

  • Clean up IP/Profile page for better alignment of text and values.
  • Fix recommended profile highlighting to highlight in forest green to show correctly selected profile.
  • Fix profile highlighting - was highlighting downstream value but not upstream value.
  • Fix FTTP connections (again).
  • Fix Bitloading graph to show message if connection is FTTP.
  • Fix bug in getting proper upstream/downstream profile rates when there had been a retrain (again).
  • Fix FEC/CRC data rates and associated calculations (again). Upstream FEC/CRC removed because it isn't updated by the RG often enough.
  • Fix highlighting for values that can be highlighted more than one way depending on conditions.
  • Tweak VRAD distance calculation, should improve accuracy for those very close (<700') to VRAD.
  • Tweak highlighting threshholds for better consistency between parameters.
  • Add page-based HTML caching to speed up data collection. IP addressing information, bitloading, and bit allocation analysis are now only updated once every 5 minutes. FEC/CRC rates and interface data rates are still updated once every 60 seconds.
  • Add Coax/HPNA analysis and highlighting of errant Phy rates.
  • Add warning about saving personal information in a screenshot.

As always, please post here with any comments or bugs.

I have tried this a couple of times, but I keep getting the same error.  I Confirmed I have the correct firmware.  I just downloaded and tried to extract.  That seems to work fine, but when I double click on the executable this is what I get.  What am I missing?

The mod has to approve your picture before it will show for everyone else, so when it appears I'll take a look and see what's up.

If the program doesn't run at all, make sure of a couple things:

1. The program requires that you have installed the .Net Framework v2.0 and v3.5.  If you haven't installed these, go to Windows Update, and look in the optional updates to find these.

2. Depending on the security settings on your computer, the .exe file might not run from a network drive.  Copy the 2WireRealtime folder to the local C:\ drive and run it from there.

I downloaded the necessary optional updates and it seems to be working fine.  Thanks for the help.  One quick question, In looking at the Coax/HPNA tab, I see one of my 4 source station ID's PHY rate is pretty low.  How do I identify which stb that is?  See screen shot below.  1627i5762DA2976AEF876

You can check the MAC address on the bottom of your units as it's 2 going back to 1.  Check that all connections are tight and what you can see of the cable that it's stll in good condition.  If you see PQ problems from it call TS on the # in my sig and press 2 for TS, good luck. :smileywink:
