New to AT&T - DVR won't record

Just got AT&T DVR installed yesterday, two scheduled recordings both did not record - am I missing something?  Does power need to be on to record (that wasn't the case with Comcast)?  Any helpful suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

kristin1341 - The DVR needs to be plugged in but not "turned on" for viewing.

Did you look at the scheduled list to see if it was scheduled?

If you are using the red button method - the first push is record episode - the second push record series - the third is cancel. If the DVR is responding slowly it is easy to hit that third push and cancel your recordings.

Set up a recording for the next few minutes & check that it is scheduled & see if it records.

Also, check the recording space thermometer. Some DVRS were not reset to provide space. If you do not have 90 percent available you will need to do a hard reboot.

If you have space & it still does not work try a pull the plug for 30 seconds reboot.

I recently had a dvr that wouldn't go into record, pause, rew, or ff live tv.  I called TS and reported the issue to a CSR.  She transferred me to a tier 2 tech, and after awhile the issue got resolved.  So I say call TS using the phone number in my sig.

When in doubt, reboot.

Found the following in another thread and this solve my issue. Forgot to copy the poster of this but kudos to the poster

Since you just got this DVR, it doesn't have any recordings on it, correct?

If it does not, please do a disaster recovery reset on the DVR to reformat the hard drive and re-download the software:

1. Hold down the Power button on the front of the box. If you were to keep holding down just the power button, the box would reboot 5 seconds later.
2. BEFORE THE BOX REBOOTS, hold down the OK button and the Down Arrow button also.
3. The box will reboot, you will see all three LED lights on the front come on (Blue, Green, Red).
4. Once you see the 3 LEDs on, release the Power button, but continue holding down the OK button and Down Arrow button.
5. You will see a screen come up that has 1 gear on it. At this point, release the OK and Down Arrow buttons.

The box will go through a disaster recovery reset which will take 20-30 minutes. After that, the box will come up and show TV. Wait about another 5 minutes for it to download the guide and your recorded series information, then attempt to record something.

rayna1957 - If you cannot get a DVR ro record for you call for a replacement.

You are doing this on the DVR - not another STB. If it is another STB - unplug RG, DVR & STBS. Replug in that order waiting for RG *& DVR to stabilize before moving to the next one.

Also, you did not just upgrade from a level that did not have DVR??

we did all the troubleshooting with the tech chat and it still didn't work. This is a new box but it seems it doesn't hold a recording. The tech is coming tomorrow.
