Where y'all (you all, you'ns) from?

I've lived in Indiana since 1966 (I was four, when we moved) but this survey/quiz still shows my Missouri / Ozark roots!

How 'bout you?  Take the quiz and share!

1962 (born) - 1982 Allen Park Mi. (Detroit area)

1982 - 2000 St.Louis area

2000 - 2004 West Chester PA. (Philly area)

2004 - Present back to St. Louis area

My dialect map nailed it.  It showed Detroit and STL.

I grew up and have lived most of my life in Houston, TX, and I had a large influence while growing up from my grandfather, who was born and raised in Baton Rouge, LA.

For me, the interesting thing was the city selections were made based on three "most regional" answers. Two of which were the same - Rotary indicates springfield, MA and Providence RI. Mischief night dials up Newark/Patterson, NJ. All this triangulates New Haven, CT and mirrors travel and experience in the NY, NJ, NE area.

Also, I had some questions that I could easily have answered differently. I wondered, what if I picked those other choices. I thought it would be interesting to do it again.

Surprise! I got different questions, even before I provided a different answer, So, there must be some randomness built in to the question selection.

This time it responded with New York, Yonkers and Newark/Patterson NJ based on the single indicator sunshower (which did not previously make the big three)

You, too, may find it interesting to do a second time. Be sure to look at the key selection answers at the end. May, I should try a third time, just to see new questions.

aviewer,

You're right, I took the quiz again and saw some different questions that I didn't have before.  One of them further localized me to Houston, TX ... it was a question about what I call the small road that runs parallel to the major highway road.

Only in Houston, TX and the surrounding area is that road called the feeder. Smiley Very Happy

SomeJoe7777 - That was one of the ones I changed - First frontage, then service. Long ago, when I was in Dallas, there was a numbered road designation that I had not seen before I'm thinking it was circle or something along those lines.

I could pick any from the list of sandwiches - they all taste good.

I took it again - this triangle was a bit broader: Overland Park, KS, Wichita and Jackson, MS.  But once again, the Missouri Ozarks are right there.  Mom and dad are from there and I lived there until I was four.  I guess I learned these traits from mom and dad. Smiley Happy

Well....I grew up in a small town 25 mi. north of Wichita, Kansas.  So my use of language is fairly neutral.  I suppose my broadcasting career might have had some influence also.   The color shading on my map was spread like peanut butter....pretty much evenly....all over the country.  I've already forgotten which cities were shown but they were all quite a way further east than where I was raised.

This quiz surprised me--one of the cities is about 90 minutes away, but I have lived 15 miles south of the second one for about 20 years, and lived in the third one for about 25 years previously.  So I wasn't born in any of the cities, but spent most of my life in two of them.

I'm from where I was at, but I'm no longer at where I'm from.Smiley LOL

Originally conjured in Salem, MA

Have relatives in Lynn, Ipswich, Danvers, and Beverly also, so I spent a bit of time there.

Have lived in Roanoke and Vinton in Virginia
.

Have lived in Quinlan, TX  and worked in Terrell and Greenville.

Currently Woodstock, IL, which is the area I lived in between those other places as well.

Also spent around 30 days working in Los Angeles for a plant start-up, although I didn't get to do anything but work, drive, and sleep (usually 14 - 20 hour days at the plant). Have been a lot of other places for work like Grandhaven and Ypsilanti, MI, Providence, RI, Reading, PA, StCatherines, ONT and about a hundred other places mostly east of the Mississippi.

Have inlaws in NW PA so have spent quite a bit of time around the Erie and Meadville area as well over the last 29 years.

SLC may seem odd but I bet lots of folks from the Midwest migrated to Utah and took their dialect, with them.

Born and bred in metro Detroit and still here, it came up dark reddest in metro Detroit, probably due to the use of pop for what others might call soda pop.

Grand Rapids, MI then Rochester, NY

Have to say it was going all over the US w/some of my answers though. Smiley Very Happy

Mine was pretty close. Lived in central Iowa for my first 18 years, then moved to SE Missouri and currently live in St. Louis.

If I change my answer from "soda" to "pop" (which is what I called it until I got tired of Missourians laughing at me), I get Des Moines.
