WOW! Here it is....the 3rd day....nearly the 4th day of the new year, 2014. We had -3.3 deg. last night. But much warmer this evening at 32.0 deg. HOWEVER.....the forecast I just heard on TV is for snow coming over the weekend and by first night or two of next week we might see -10 degrees. Why oh Why didn't we settle way down south? That TV commercial on the little country of Belize is looking better all the time. I imagine living costs are pretty high down there. I know real estate is.
OK.....new Canon SX-280 camera is working well. I sure do hope it stays functioning well for the rest of my life. Anyone want a junk Panasonic ZS8....15 month old pocket compact camera? It doesn't work. Something wrong with the sensor or the internal ribbon cables I think. But that Leica lens was a real beaut.
It is nice to know that there are still good neighbors around who seem to enjoy helping each other. When we had about an inch of snow a couple of days ago we were kind of late getting out there to push some of it off the drive. But when we did go bundled up and headed out with our shovels....SURPRISE.....our drive and sidewalks were all done. Super fellow across the street from us...a retired farmer who likes any physical exercise he can find....was the kind soul who took care of our driveway....and that of the 85 yr. old neighbor lady to our east also.....plus he did his own driveway. I wish I still had THAT kind of energy. Heck....by the time I crawl out of bed....sit on the porcelin throne...brush my teeth, shave, etc. I'm already exhausted and I haven't even had any breakfast yet.
Speaking of tired......that bed sounds inviting. So goodnight to all. Stay warm.

We are looking at the same cold forecast here, with wind chill warnings and school closings already in place for Monday.
When I first moved in to the neighborhood (during winter)10 years ago, I came home after a 6" snow to find my driveway had been cleared--turned out my neighbor knew I had just moved in and that I had not found a snowblower yet, so he helped me (and several other near neighbors) out and spared me shoveling the hard way.
Which reminds me, I have to try to fix my snowblower today before the next snowfall--the chute keeps getting loose and coming off at one side, but I can't see why so far. Luckily, today will be near 30 degrees, so I shouldn't be too miserable outside for a bit.
Enjoy your weekend and stay warm.

Sounds like a wonderful neighbor, doc. A story came to mind....about a friend of mine, who at the time lived in Ames, Iowa....in the land of super cold and big snows. Anyway...my buddy bought a nice, large snowblower from Sears and toted it home in his SUV. Being a generous fellow he also cleared the driveways and sidewalks for everyone on his side of the street....for a full block. And continued to do this for some time. THEN....one windy, sub-zero, super-snowy day his snowblower broke and he had to load it up and take it to the Sears service center and leave it. Came home.....finished his driveway with a scoop-shovel and went indoors for a nice hot cup of hot chocolate. Pretty soon the phone rings. It's a neighbor from about 3 doors east of my friend's home and he wants to know...and I quote..."why the h--- haven't you showed up to do my walks and driveway? How long do we have to wait?" He told the guy his blower was broken and it was in to be fixed and estimated to cost about $100 to repair. The guy hung up on him. Needless to say my friend learned his lesson. No one in that block got free snow blowing service anymore...and no one offered to help him with the repair bill. I told him....when some people find out they have a sucker hooked they'll squeeze him for everything they can get. End of story.
My wife kept getting E-mails and notices that she should take advantage of a special price and upgrade her Quicken program. She kept seeing these in the E-mail app on her iPad....which, of course, gets the same AT&T/Yahoo E-mail that all our phones and PC's get. So she finally gave in and order the upgrade.......via her iPad. Whoops! Her Quicken program is not on the iPad....it is on her laptop which was not even turned on at the time. She's kind of new to this computer world. Well.....when she turned on the laptop.....and began entering our receipts and other financial items she discovered that upgrade had taken place and the new features and changes were up & runnning. I have NOT figured that one out as yet. The only thing I can think of is that as soon as the laptop came on line the upgrade was immediately initiated and complete before she began posting her entries. There could have been a delay of several minutes in there because she often turns on the laptop and then goes on to other tasks while she waits for it to boot. That is all I can think of. Problem is she is still getting reminders to upgrade...on the laptop...not on the iPad. Sorry if that is confusing.....perhaps because it IS.

Boy that's the truth, Dave. If I were a betting guy I'd probably put my money on Denver. They've been looking really good. The good thing about the Chiefs is the tremendous improvement this year. Almost unbelievable. Let's hope it continues next year under Andy Reid.
It is 11 PM and the temp outside is 2 degrees. I think we're headed for the below zero range again. In fact our forcast is for -10 or so come Monday or Tuesday nights.

Yeah, Phil, the Chiefs definitely turned it around. I play Fantasy Football and picked up their Defense / Special Teams (DST) half way through the season. They saved my bacon. The Broncos could be tough but they got hammered by San Diego, in Denver, a few weeks back. I did not expect San Diego to beat Cincy.
Yesterday was a mess! We were forecast to get 8-13" of snow, high winds and falling temperatures. We got the snow but the winds/falling temps did not kick in until the snow was almost over. We picked up 11+ inches of mostly heavy, wet snow. Some of the heaviest snowfall that I've ever seen, second worst 24 hour and one calendar day snowfall in Indy - even worse than the Blizzard of 78 (but that lasted 30+ hours and had higher totals). The temps were supposed to drop to 0 by 5 PM Sunday. Instead, it stayed near freezing (30-31F) until late afternoon. The temps finally crashed to -14 and the windchill hit -41. The snow immediately dried out and turned to powder. Very odd. Often the wet snow will freeze and get a crust but not with the dramatic cool down and dry out. The city is supposed to have contractors hit the neighborhood streets but I'm not holding my breath. There are 2 foot drifts on our street and my Hyundai won't go through a one foot drift.
