Dang, is it another week down.  This year is flying by.  My son will be 5 in 2 1/2 weeks.  Seems like just yesterday we were taking him home from the hospital.  I guess working for a tax software and having multilple tax deadlines it all starts blurring into one long year.

Love the meme D.

My daughter is 28....I'm feeling old!!!  What a beautiful morning........Nice north wind and temps around 54.  Time to open the windows in the house and enjoy the weather.

Re: Weekly Off Topic Thread #308

My heart cries for y'all.  Our baby is 53 yrs. old.  His two brothers are 57 and 55.  Now what's that about feeling old??????  P.S.  I remember every detail of their births.....just as if it were yesterday.

We've been in Arlington, TX for a few days visiting equally "old" friends.  Going to stick around for the game tomorrow between Houston (their team) and Kansas City (our team).  K.C. is 6 & 0.  Hope they perseveere tomorrow.  Will head home on Monday.

The trip has been fun but exhausting.  Packing around all this heavy oxygen generating equipment has been a real chore.  There's gotta be a better way.  Well...there is....but not sure we can afford it.

I could not repair my friend's PC here.  Got it working again by doing an OS restore.  But now Microsoft no longer supports Win XP I guess because I've been completely unable to download and install all those XP updates.  Very discouraging.  I'm going to take it home with me and try to upgrade it to Win 7.  I have a legally licensed copy that I'm no longer using.  Hopefully MS will continue to support it for a while.  Then I'll ship it back to him.  He is 80.  Gets confused easily.  He may turn it on and have it screwed up within an hour or so.  But at least I'll know I tried.  That's all I can do.

Phil~~~~That's funny you mention the XP issue with updates.  I spent about an hour yesterday at a buddies house because he had the "ICE Virus".  I was able to clean it and get his PC working again but tried to do updates and nothing.  I thought maybe the virus had caused an issue but I guess not.

His computer is about 8 years old and I told him to order a new one but he asked me to do it so I did, using his CC of course, and did it at my house not trusting his PC.  I ordered him a laptop since he's not getting around too good these days and his computer is upstairs.  Figured he could use the laptop where ever he pleases so he doesn't have to go up and down the stairs so much.

I have cleaned no less than 10 viruses off that box.  He is not very computer literate so he's easily fooled with fake emails and links to sites.  The fan on the CPU has failed and other issues so I told him it's time to pull the trigger on a new one and he did.

Phil, if you download the XP service packs first and install them offline, you'll spend a lot less time on the Windows Update site (1 day instead of 3). Also, if your friend's computer has an AMD processor, you need to rename the intelppm.sys file to xintelppm.sysx before you install XP Service Pack 3 or it will get stuck in a crash loop on startup. The file is located in C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers directory.

BB, in regards to having difficulties in climbing stairs. My mom & step-dad are both 93 and she keeps asking me how my kids in S. Cal are doing? I've told her repetitively they tend to only communicate through facebook on what they're doing and she needs to check fb more often. She's stills sharp, has her own fb account, and knows her way around her computer with a little help sometimes.

I purposely bought her a laptop so she could bring it downstairs once they reach the point of no longer being able to climb the steep stairs of their condo. Finally told her the other day it may be time to move her whole computer system downstairs. She refused and said climbing the stairs is good exercise for them to reach the computer! Smiley Happy

Took our poor 12-13 year old cat Romeo to the vet yesterday since he's quit eating and losing weight. Blood work determined he has pancreatitis but other bodily functions/organs are good. So they gave him a bunch of injections, put him on a special no-fat diabetic canned food diet for a couple days, while giving him some med/injection to increase his appetite. I don't know what the heck this med is for increasing his appetite but now he's starved and afraid were overfeeding him. Seems like he's getting his energy back and hope to have him back to normal in a couple days. Seems like pet health-care is about the same as for people and the vet appt cost $280. But when a pet's sick money is no object....

LOL Dave, and that's a good one!

Yikes, low of 28 tonight where I am, 25 the next couple nights, and possible snow showers tomorrow!
