Weekly Off-Topic Thread #294

Well, here we are, a new WOTT. Seems like I just started one of these yesterday. Hope everyone has a good weekend.

Spent most of yesterday pruning all the dead crap out of my neighbors trees along my fence line so I don't have to look at it anymore while sitting on my deck.

Mom is is visiting from AZ for a couple weeks. My niece and her husband will be coming over and we're going to do a birthday dinner for mom on Sunday.

@Computer-Joe, sounds like you have a great weekend ahead of you. Hope you enjoy your mom's visit. I don't know about you, but I feel like I'm constantly doing yard work and it's never done. :smileyfrustrated:

Two of my neighbors and I have begun what amounts to a yard work co-op.  One of them has a rider mower and does all three yards at once; the other two of us do edging, trimming, cleanup, etc.  With the rider mower in the equation, it has cut down the time and effort for all of us, and I'll be enjoying a few cocktails later knowing lawn care is over for the weekend!

I'm spoiled......I have the yard guy come every Friday and let HIM take care of it.  It's worth the $40 to me anyway.  I used to be able to handle the Texas heat but as I get older not so much anymore.  Supposed to be 99 today with a heat index of 104.  Yea, welcome to south Texas!!

I still do my own yard work but agree it's a real chore the older you get. Didn't help so many branches/limbs came down in my yard and on the 900' drive when severe storms rolled through here with a long-awaited cold front Weds evening. Power went on/off quickly 3 times and so glad I didn't lose it like the other 5K residents in my county! Can't believe it's 77 with a humidity level of only 55% after 19 straight days of rain with flooding conditions!

I've been trying to buy a new used Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited from a dealer 40 miles away. I can see why used car salesmen are one of earth's lower life forms! "Come on up for a test drive.". "You can't drive that since it hasn't been through a safety inspection!". "By the time you come up for a test drive it may be already sold!".

Think I'll go mow on my rider while listening to some music just to relieve some stress from dealing with this pack of twits!

Wish some of that rain would come up here.  We're drying out and my tomato plants need it.  We're watering with the hose but the city water just isn't as good as good old mother natures fresh rain.  At least the tomato plants think so.

On the positive side....the grass ain't growing as fast as it was in the spring.   Our old mower died....and I was not in the mood to fool around getting it fixed.  It was 7 years old and not behaving very well anyway.  So I went to Sears and got a new one.....end of selling season sale price.  Thank goodness.  Have had a lot of expenses this year....begining with the replacement of the furnace/heat pump/AC......and then a new motorized base to go under our mattress so I can have the upper half of my tired old body elevated to prevent reflux while I sleep.  Our poor 14 yr. old grandson was doing our mowing and he thought it was something he did to break the mower.  I had to spend about 30 minutes reassuring him that he was doing everything right but the mower just gave up the ghost and it would have happened no matter which family member was using it.

Got my report from the lung specialist after taking a whole bevy of tests this past Monday.   My lung capacity is down to 45% of normal.  So now I have a love affair going with my oxygen bottles....and they follow me everywhere.:smileyvery-happy:

Be thankful we're not getting all the government we're paying for. .............Will Rogers

Oh goodness Phil......It seems like your troubles never end.........Sorry to hear that.  It will improve, I hope.

I believe I've found where our $2 per month per subscriber fee for the ability to have wireless on our RG went:

LOS ANGELES (AP) — AT&T Inc. said Friday that it has agreed to acquire Leap Wireless International Inc., the pre-paid cellphone carrier that operates under the Cricket brand, for about $1.19 billion in cash, or $15 a share.

The purchase gives the nation's No. 2 cellphone carrier a leg-up in serving customers who prefer not to have lengthy contracts. Leap's Cricket service has 5 million subscribers who pay monthly without a contract. The deal also gives AT&T the right to use Leap's unused airwaves — also known as spectrum — to expand its network.

Spectrum is the lifeblood of the wireless industry and the fight to grab more of it has spurred a recent wave of consolidation.

Something I've always wondered about on the WOTT.  Will the moderator slap us down for staying on-topic too long?

Bacon.  Why because everything is better with bacon.

So got a nice delivery in the big brown truck yesterday. My old pc has gone from XP to Vista to Win7 Home and it was just too slow.  Ordered a bare bones kit from Tigerdirect.com and it was delivered last night.  AMD FX4 3.6Ghz processor, 8GB ram, 1TB HDD, Gigabyte MB and Thermaltake case.  Not a gaming beast, but more than enough for what I want to do with it.  Going to format my old pc, reload Win7 Home on it and let my 4yo use it for his games.

Tried the Pretzel Bacon Cheeseburger at Wendy's last night.  Not all that impressed; prefer their Double Stack at half the price.

My first home system had an Intel 386, which I replaced with a processor from Cyrix.  Then I bought another Intel (Pentium II), but the next 3 purchases were all AMD (Duron, Athlon, Athlon II).  I've been buying Intel Core 5's for the last two machines.
