Weekly Off-Topic Thread #276

Another week shot.  Still snow on the ground from our two horrific storms.  But it is melting gradually and Alfie & I no longer have to take our complete walk in the streets.Plus he no longer is having so much difficulty finding that "correct spot" for his "duties".

Have any of you made an attempt to see the new comet?  Supposed to be somewhat visible in the Northern Hemisphere now if you look carefully shortly after sunset.  I dug out my old binoculars but have not been able to buy a compeltely clear sky.  Plus we live east of Kansas City so you can imagine what the light pollution to the west of us does to any chance to see it.  This year is a double feature.  I think there is another comet which will be visible later in the year.  I should look up the info.

Here's wishing you all a wonderful week.   Oh yeah.....GO JAYHAWKS!

This Berkley city councilman is not the brightest bulb in the pack.

I know right.  But then again you have to consider where this councilman is.  California has not been known for smart polititians in a long time.

Believe that councilman has it backwards. Maybe the latest Postal Service stamp increase should be used to help subsidize the running of internet lines across areas of the country where internet isn't currently available? Would make more sense than wasting the money on customer service/Sat. delivery surveys. Smiley Wink

OU, I got a kick out of an article about the Pope in our paper this morning. At that point, there still wasn't a new Pope yet. The headline said, "Pope??? Nope." Smiley Tongue

Yup, Uni, that Jeff Gordon video was funny.  Wonder why they didn't let Jeff do the stunt driving?  He's better than Brad Nofsinger, lol.

Too cloudy here and I also am to the East of a metropoliiton area which might hinder westward viewing.  Apparently this "naked eye comet," is loooow on the horizon and I have lots of homes to the West.  Three strikes, I guess!

This shot is from Spaceweather.com.  Thanks to the time exposure, it stands out but they could barely see it, on their own.  It will move into darker skies, in the near future.

Re: Weekly Off-Topic Thread #276

I tried with binoculars last night, but couldn't see it. I think it's too low on the horizon for easy viewing unless you're up high. Also, I'm in Houston, and the atmospheric haze near the horizon blocks a lot of light. So even though it's clear outside, I still might not be able to see it.

Same here and the fact that Houston has so many lights running at night I miss out on a lot of celestial events.
