WOTT #341

I'll give a try at creating the new WOTT although I have absolutely no confidence that I can get it to post.

Pretty quiet day here in our little town.  We were surprised that we didn't hear more pops and bangs.  But tonight the neighbors for blocks around us are making up for lost time.  One of the favorite, illegal boomers here in Missouri is a 1/4 stick of dynamite.  One just hopes that one of those nuts doesn't live too close.  Thank goodness this is only one day a year.  I try to be understanding......by remembering my early years as a teenager and an amateur chemist.  Yeah....never used dynamite but did make my own flash powder for crackers....fountains....and small rockets.  Lots of fun.  At times I am amazed that I made it through my youth and remained alive.

The weather cooperated.  It was a beautiful day.....somewhat warm but not hot.  Tonight is great and right now it is only 69.6 degrees F out there.

I hope you all have had an enjoyable 4th and that the weekend will be great.

Had a good night last watching at three different fireworks in my area.  Went to my brothers place after working yesterday.  Once it got dark, we watched the Iron Pigs (Phila Phillies AAA baseball team) fireworks, City of Bethlehem, and City of Easton.  The two cities fireworks were at a distance, but still nice.  The Iron Pigs always puts on a nice fireworks.

Of course someone around my brother's place was shoot off fireworks and frightening the dogs.

I hope that all the individuals that shooting off fireworks are being safe.

I have live about 10 miles inside the PA border from NJ.  In the state of PA you can not shoot off fireworks stronger than sparklers and poppers, but you can purchasing anything you want.  In the state of NJ, you can shoot off anything you want, but cannot purchasing them.  I have always thought that was funny.

Hope everyone has a safe weekend

Yeah Phil, I didn't hear quite as many loud firefireworks as usual last night and maybe the neighborhood pyro was out of town?

Last Saturday we did pick up our new 7 1/2 week old Newfie pup, named him Jake, and what a cutie! I hope this little guy doesn't grow up scared of loud noises/thunder. It was overcast when we parked by the house and as soon as we got out of the Jeep my wife set Jake down in the yard and there was probably the loudest lightening crack right over our head I think I've ever heard! Scared the heck out of all of us and luckily nothing was hit.

Guess I had forgotten how intensive it is to try to house train a puppy, particular one this young. Luckily I have a huge wire crate to put him in if need be. The cats weren't very resceptive of Jake to say the least but they just try to stay out of his path rather than bullying him which they could surely do.

As promised here's some photos of the sweet little guy.

If you get to thinking you're a person of influence, try ordering someone else's dog around.

I participated in two local parades, and now have a really pronounced sunburn--kind of a nice cooked lobster color!  That gives me a good excuse to stay indoors today and watch the recorded shows on my DVR!  Hope all of you enjoy the rest of your weekwnd.

He is a cutie.  Man Very Happy Hopefully he will not mind the loud noises.  I found over the years, that the younger the dog is when he gets his first exposure to loud noises, the easier it is.  Our 14 month dog was in our house close to Memorial Day, so the local nuts were shoot off fireworks.  He does not seem to mind them.  In fact, other than some nut shot one over head in the middle of the day, TJ did not react.  He did react to the one today, but I think it was just it being so unexpected.  I even reacted.

Hopefully tomorrow will not be humid so I can sit outside get some rays and have some me time.

Hope everyone has a good weekend

What a great looking little guy, Uni.    Well....I had a nice, lengthy, post ready to go and forgot and hit the TAB key.  It all went away and I'm not about to retype all of it.  Probably couldn't remember what I said even if I wanted to.    I hate this new format with a pure passion.  Lose stuff....can't find features I used to use....UGH!  Every time I try to use it I end up getting angry and my blood pressure going up.

Next time Phil, just try right clicking in the text area and see if Undo comes up as they left if off the new workline above (including the Line button and color choice).

If you catch it just when you do it, it should bring all the text back.

If that doesn't work, try backing out and click reply again and see if the load button brings back what you lost. Smiley Wink

I agree.  As you can see my same post was posted twice.  It kept telling me I using inappropriate language, but I could not see any.

Maybe as I go along I will figure it out.

Thanks guys and little Jake is a handful, even at 9 weeks old today! Know what you mean CJ when he gets huge and starts knocking everthing over. I don't know what it is about Newfies but once fully grown they sure can jump high for their size! This includes couches, beds, front seat of my wife's Wrangler, etc.. Lol.

Well what do you know, and I found one good improvement in the new system. You no longer have to reduce your photo sizes, which was aways a real pain, and now it just fits/adjusts them in no matter how large they are. Nice..

Flutist, you really need to stop using that inappropriate language when refering to the pyro-tech eithusitsts. This including using nuts, bat-*hit crazy, looney, bonkers, off-their-rocker, missing a few marbles, staying at the ha-ha hotel, etc.. Smiley LOL

If it doesn't tell you what's wrong/inappropriate click on the HTML view because it even picks up hidden things/abreviations in your posts.

If you get to thinking you're a person of influence, try ordering someone else's dog around.

Actually, when I was much younger, and the the wife and I would make our yearly camping trip to N.W. PA to visit her folks, on the way back to N. IL, we would stop in Indiana and pick up as much fireworks as we could pack into the pop-up camper (usually between 4 and 5 c-notes worth). We'd take the whole lot out to a freinds house "in the country" (his closest neighbor was at least 3/4 mile away) for his fourth party. Usually several other people brought goodies as well, but probably spent almost twice what I did. So, my pile was always the smallest. Smiley Sad We always had a really good show each year though.

It's been ~20 years since we've done that though.

Our problem now is our little Jello. She has extreme fireworks issues. She can be out in the yard sniffing and running around and having fun, and hear a single firecracker a half mile away and she's running for the house. The second, third, and fourth of July are a hard time for her. She has problems with storms too.

Ah yes....the old bad word filter.  One time I referred to myself as a (bad word) and it  refused to post.  Funny thing was....it really was not a "bad" word.

Hi ya, Chris.  Thanks for the tips.  I'll try to remember them if the magic, disappearing, text happens again.

We spent much of the morning at the hospital while my wife went through her pre-operation procedures.  Blood drawing....X-rays....the whole package.  Then....this coming Friday is the big day and she will have her double mastectomy.  I don't know which one of us is stressed out more.  I've been through two major surgeries in my life......partial intestinal resection and triple bypass cardiac procedure.  I don't remember being particularly stressed when it was me.  I just assumed everything would go OK.  But now that is her going through it.....the gal I've been married to for 58+ years....it's me stressing.  Trying not to let it show.

Hot today and storms expected sometime overnight.  I checked the radar a few minutes ago and WOW it looks like a really vicious line of storms coming our way from the NW and another lesser group coming from the W.   It's 9:30 and still 82 degrees outside so there is lots of energy available to feed these storms.

We were watching a program from NetFlix last night and about 3/4 of the way through it the screen went blank while the buffer filled.....then it came back on for about 10 seconds and stopped again....then again and again...for about 5 or 6 times.  Finally things straightened out and the program finished out with no further interruptions.  Streaming, IMHO, has a way to go before it will replace the regular feed.  Of course I can understand why AT&T and other ISP's would not be particularly interested in helping out the competition.  But NetFlix has programs that can't be found elsewhere.....certainly not anywhere on U-verse On Demand.  So if we drop NetFlix....which I'm sure AT&T would like us to do....we won't be switching over to watch On Demand.  AT&T won't gain a thing from us.  We already bailed out of U-450 a year or so ago.  No longer wanted to waste money on HBO and Cinemax.  Nothing but mostly trash and even the movies and shows that were any good were repeats.

Google Fiber is gradually beginning to work its way eastward across the Kansas City metropolitan area.  But I have no idea how long it will take .... if too long I won't be around to see it.  Our little suburb is way out on the east side....about 20 mi. from the city.

When I run speed tests we are consistently getting over 20 mbps down.  We are subscribers to the 18 mbps speed.  Even the upload speed has increased...often around 1.95 to 2.00 mbps.

Uni, I can see lots of years of enjoyment raising and loving that new little playmate of yours.  Just look into those eyes.  Jake as already figured out how to manipulate his new family.  What a beauty he is.  Please post more photos as he grows.  I couldn't help noticing the size of those paws.  You know what that means.

Welp - I think that all of the service guys are through after our plumbing fiasco.  We got about $500 knocked off of our drywall repair, which should cover the deductible.  Freaking drywall guys!  Yes drywall is dusty, dirty and filthy but c'mon, now.  Our concrete garage floor is now about 3 shades whiter, due to ground in drywall dust.  I cannot recommend the restoration company used due to incompitence.  The first guy was great.   Clean, tidy and had a plan.  He was the guy that found that we still had a leak.  Then his mom got sick in Florida and she almost died.  SO, he was out of pocket (don't you just love modern corporate speak?) for 3 weeks.  The guy that they sent next was a complete ya-hoo.  He had no plan.  He got there and immediately started talking about how this job was a puzzle.  He huffed and said "I guess that I'd better go to the hardware store and get some drywall."  Ya think?  I then looked into his van and said "do you have insulation, in there?"  And he asked why he needed insulation.  I said to go between the walls.  He then asked "Oh, those walls are insulated?"  I smart alleckly pointed to the obvious insulation billowing out behind the drywall that was still standing.  He told me that we had some copper pipe that wasn't attached to anything and it could be safely cut out.  He asked for my permission.  I said "as long as you're sure it's not connected.  He said it wasn't.  It was.  D'oh!  Water streamed out of it all day.  The resto company had to hire a plumber to fix it.  Apparently it was an old water softener hook up that was right on the incoming water line.  The plumber capped it and realized it when nothing came back on.  The drywall ya-hoo did the wall on the garage side and it looked okay but had to come back to do the laundry room.

My wife loves stuff to be clean and neat (me, not so much).  Her appliances are like jewelry to her.  I can't lay a pencil on the dryer without getting the "evil eye."  I can imagine her cringing every time he slammed a tape measure, saw or wrench on the dryer.  He is lucky to be alive, lol.  About two hours after sawing the laundry room ceiling to fit in the sheets of drywall, I opened the door and it was like a blizzard of dust.  Everything was coated in the laundry / mud room.  Nasty.

They have came back twice to paint and clean, so it's as done as it's gonna be done and we are ready to move things back.  Anyone wanna buy a house?  Seriously.
