Let's Talk About the Weather - The New Temp Thread

Another "cool" front blew through Indy last night with a reinforcing short of cool air.  Lots of wind and temps today in the 60's.  Maybe some light frost tomorrow.  We are still way down in the rainfall department but we got half an inch Wed. afternoon and that was as much as we received in all of August!

Re: Let's Talk About the Weather - The New Temp Thread

It hit 117 on the car thermometer yesterday on the freeway, and 111 going through the shade.

I was afraid this would be coming...

Re: Let's Talk About the Weather - The New Temp Thread

That sure as heck isn't good. Hurricane Emily flooded the E coast states ($30 billion damage), Tropical storm Lee is flooding the Gulf states and tropical storm/hurricane Katia is gaining momentum in the Atlantic.

Didn't realize NOAA uses/repeats the same list of tropical storm/hurricane names ever 7 years and now the names are the same as 2005 list. But they retire names of tropical storms/hurricanes which caused major damage.

I had one heck of a super hot day yesterday. Spent 3 1/2 hours in the concrete Ohio Stadium ("Horseshoe") in full sun/97 degrees watching the Buckeyes beat Akron University 42-0. High humidity and no wind didn't help either. My son and I only took a break at halftime and luckily the upper deck shaded us the 2nd half. Still got sun burned even w/spf 50 sunscreen on and thought I was half-tan.

Since storms/cold front coming in mowed the grass when I got home. Waited until sun was almost down but at 7pm it was still 89 here. Needless to say I'll be laying low/hanging out in the AC for a while. But won't need AC for long since on Monday/Labor Day the high temp will only be 70.

Cool/wet weather pattern for the next week and it may put a "damper" on Labor Day activities here.

I may need to get out the portable heater just for in the mornings. The feel of fall starts here this week. When I was unlocking the door at work I was thinking who turned the AC on outside.

Re: Let's Talk About the Weather - The New Temp Thread

I am really starting to get jealous of your rain up there!

Very windy yesterday, SUVs left in the dust since they can't do wind. Smiley Very Happy  It started being breezy Friday nightYesterday there were ominous-looking clouds to the East (where the storm was), and a few hours later, the sky turned a deep blue.

We had sprinkle rain, enough to keep the wipers on Intermittent, but that was about itHad to make a run to WM last night (only place that carries Tortuga's favorite food, Jumbo Min!), and they had a power outageSo nix that trip, and drive to another location.

The lights have browned out a few times this morning, and I don't think we're still under power conservation; but maybe people are going gung-ho using power today?

Highs in the 90's today and yesterday, and we can feel the differenceNot ready to get out the blankets yet, though!  Only 86 right now, and not complaining!

Very concerned about Houston's trees--so many are turning brown from lack of water.

Re: Let's Talk About the Weather - The New Temp Thread

Oh my gosh!!!  We had some thunderstorms and a cold front move through.  When I took Alfie for his walk this morning it was 68 deg. with a nice breeze and, frankly, I wish I had worn a light jacket.  OUR HIGH TODAY was only 74.4 degrees under a deep blue sky with brilliant sunshine.  Love it!

Re: Let's Talk About the Weather - The New Temp Thread

Never got out of the 60's yesterday, with a strong North wind. Woke up this morning to 49 degrees, had to swap the T-shirt and shorts for long pants and a sweat shirt. Guess it's just a little taste of things to come.

Re: Let's Talk About the Weather - The New Temp Thread

Well someone flipped the switch and changed the thermostat from heat to cool.  Went from 100 on Friday to barely breaking 80 yesterday.  Was down to 60 this morning.  Only one day this week supposed to reach 90.  Can't believe how quickly things changed.

Re: Let's Talk About the Weather - The New Temp Thread

Same hot/cold changes going on here and a little hard to take the 40-50 degree temp differences. 97 on Sat and only 57 here now. Last night was even cooler and below 50.

It's going to be a cool/wet week and leaves/walnuts are falling like rain with a cool breeze.

Re: Let's Talk About the Weather - The New Temp Thread

Indianapolis rarely hits 100 and has (had) only done so twice in the past 23 years.  Thursday and Friday both hit 99 and it was supposed to get a bit cooler on Saturday at 93 but that was the day that we hit 100.  Twice this year.  Very rare!

Today in the mid 60's.  Clouds from Lee are thickening and we may get on and off rain for DAYS.  Maybe 2+ inches.  That's okay, we need it.

Re: Let's Talk About the Weather - The New Temp Thread

Enough of the record-breakers!  Now we've broken a low for this day:

...Record low temperature set at Houston Intercontinental...

a record low temperature of 59 degrees was set at Houston Intercontinental today.
This ties the old record of 59 set in 1891.

Those fires are getting too close to Houston...to the West this afternoon, nothing but lots of low, smokey clouds.  I read one report that it was 3 teenagers who are suspect (arson) near the TX RenFest site.  I haven't seen that stated on the TV news, but read it online.

Cooler temps are nice and highs only in the 90's--never thought I'd welcome the cooler weather.

Re: Let's Talk About the Weather - The New Temp Thread

Wow, that is cool/cold for you guys! Guess Texas wins the award for the most twisted weather this year.

Sure wish we could send you guys some rain to help with the fires. It's been raining steady about 15 hours straight and we won't even see the sun until Sunday. Gloomy/cloudy/dark weather which is typical for Ohio but not during the month of Sept. That's typically one of out most sunny/dry months. Go figure....

Re: Let's Talk About the Weather - The New Temp Thread

VERY heavy smoke in the area this morning, and it really looked like Los Angeles instead of Houston!  I'll be limiting the dog's time outdoors. Smiley Sad

Got smoke here in Chicago today from wildfires burning in northern Minnesota, here's a satellite image taken earlier today. http://www.crh.noaa.gov/news/display_cmsstory.php?wfo=lot&storyid=73042&source=0

Re: Let's Talk About the Weather - The New Temp Thread

I didn't know there were ones raging up there, too!

We have another one that started 2 days ago, but flared up big yesterday...a little too close!  Smoke outside now makes your throat burn and eyes water.  There was ash falling like snow at my temporary residence today!  3 roads south of I-10 were closed.

And we're back up to the 100+'s, breaking 100-year-old records now. Smiley Sad

Re: Let's Talk About the Weather - The New Temp Thread

Real bummer about all the current large fires (50) going on in the US as can be seen/mapped below. According to the forecasters the smoke from the MN fires may reach clear down to Central Ohio in the next couple days.
