Error code 771

Been getting the same error message now for 7 days now. Long waits on hold and chat is not making a happy camper. Anyone else having problems with DIRECT TV?

Re: Error code 771

Please post back with your signal readings for each satellite's transponders (and both tuners if applicable).  You'll find these readings under "Menu" -> "Setup" -> "System Setup" -> Satellite -> "View Signal Strength".  Note the "+" and "-" symbols next to the "Satellite" and "Tuner" entries where you can toggle the readings between the various satellites and both DVR tuners.

Fill in your readings for each satellite and tuner using these examples.  A properly aligned dish will show 80-100 on most of the relevant transponders (although some will be low or zero):

Satellite transponders (32 total at 101º)

[Most of your standard definition channels are beamed from 101ºW]

Re: Error code 771

If you just look at the 101 (it's the first one comes up.) most of those will be high 80's to high 90's one 2 ever say 100, if they are low then the other will likely be low to and your dish is out of alignment.
Any number of issues with the mount can cause that too. Additionally here is also a secondary message along with the 771 typically sat1 or sat2. That could potentially point to the lnb being bad.
If the signals are all 0 that's worse. Check all the fittings you are able to safely and ensure the are tight and not loose. Cycle the power inserter (unplug for 15sec) and that will reassign swim channels that could be a temporary fix. If your signals are high. You can go though the sound meter too. That's just below he view signal strengths. Those should all be high 90's
