Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge issues with WiFi

Hello,

I was wondering if anyone else is experiencing poor WiFi performance with thier Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge? My phone connects fine, has full WiFi service, everything else in my house that uses WiFi works perfectly fine. However, when I connect my new phone to my WiFi network it get very poor performance and lose many connections to things such as Facebook and Youtube. When I turn the WiFi off and use 4G, the phone works great.

I use an Apple Airport Extreme with default settings with exception of SSID. If I recall correctly, I'm using WPA2 Personal for security mode.

Anyone else experiencing WiFi issues?

My issue didn't start until the update. I have a Samsung S6 Active. In addition to WIFI being a crawl, if I turn off wifi because it's taking to long, my phone isn't able to find a 4g network at all until I restart my device.

Hello @thesamjames !

Thank you for posting your concerns. I’m sorry to hear that updating your phone has caused some problems with your data and Wi-Fi connections. This is not the intended experience with this update.

To help resolve this, I would recommend first clearing the cache partition on your Galaxy S6 Active. This can clear multiple device issues and make the OS run much smoother.

Keep in mind that this will not cause any information loss on the phone.

Please follow these steps:

  • Power the phone off.
  • Press power>home>volume up at the same time.
  • You'll see installing system update. You can then let go of the buttons
  • You'll then see the android sys recovery menu
  • Press the volume down key to navigate down to wipe cache partition.
  • Press power to select. Once the cache has been wiped you'll see reboot system now.
  • Select that option with the power button.

The screen will show wiping cache on screen and reboot itself.

If this does not clear the problem, you’ll want to ensure your data is backed up and factory reset your phone.

We have some great tutorials that will show you how to do this. Please visit us at our Device How-To Center, select the make and model of your phone and click on the tutorials tab. In the left column, you’ll click Backup & Restore for multiple options on backing up your data. Once that is complete, you can click troubleshooting in the same column, then follow the steps listed in Reset Device.

Please let us know if either of these help resolve your connection issues.

Thank you!

I am having the same problem with my galaxy s7 edge. The phone does not stay connected to any WiFi  connection I use. I did not have this problem with my s5. I have downloaded all the updates and cleared the cache.  Is there anything else I can do?  I am using up too much of my 4G data when I am supposed to be able to connect to WiFi. Any solutions in the making?

Hi @sanderson3676

Thank you for reaching out to AT&T Community Forums! We definitely apologize for the negative experience you are having with your brand new phone! We want to look into some troubleshooting with you to help get you back up and running!

Network settings govern how the S7 edge connects to your cellular carrier's network and Wi-Fi. If something changed within these settings, doing a reset as described below could fix your problem.

  • Swipe down from the top of the screen to pull down the Notification Shade.
  • Tap the Settings button. It looks like a gear.
  • Swipe up to scroll down on the settings screen.
  • Swipe down from top of screen to pull down notification shade, then tap settings button, then swipe up to scroll down
  • Tap Backup and reset.
  • Tap Reset network settings.
  • Tap backup and reset then tap reset network settings
  • Tap RESET SETTINGS.
  • Tap RESET SETTINGS again on the next screen to confirm your choice.
  • Tap reset settings, then reset settings again

That's it! A little pop-up message will appear briefly to let you know that your network settings have been reset. You can then retest the connection!

For additional troubleshooting, you can go through the AT&T Troubleshoot & Resolve on the AT&T website. You might need to change the device in the upper left corner. When on the website, you will then click on Wi-Fi under the Select a Service-Related Issue column.

You can always find troubleshooting tutorials and your phone's user manual through AT&T Device Support online through AT&T. Once on the website, you can select your specific device.

If the issue persists, it can be a device issue if other devices are indeed connecting and able to find the network listed. As long as the device has no liquid or physical damage, it is possible to have the device replaced if it is still under warranty. We recommend a Device Support Center if you have one in the area. Device Support Centers (DSC) offer free technical support for your device and services. Get same day, face-to-face troubleshooting and warranty service. To locate a Device Support Center in your area, click on Troubleshooting at Device Support Center.

If there is not a Device Support Center nearby, our AT&T Corporate stores would also be able to look at the device and contact the warranty department to file that claim on your behalf if your device is covered. You can locate a nearby store location by clicking on Store Locations & Appointments.

Hope this information helps! Thank you for choosing AT&T for your wireless services!

No, the April 2016 update did nothing to fix my Samsung 7 WiFi issue.

I am so disappointed that this isn't working correctly as I now have two of them with the March BOGO deal with a 2 year contract.  NOT HAPPY.  I called AT&T and had a tech tell me it was the OtterBox causing the issue.  NOPE - took the OtterBox off, shut off and restarted the phone and it still is exactly the same poor WifI experience.  Add to this that I get horrible phone reception now where I live - I can't even have the service fall over to WiFi because of the Wifi issue.

Did you turn on LEGACY DHCP in Developer Options?

Your WiFi issue is due to a router that is older and Android M's DHCP client having a compatibility issue. Turn on the legacy DHCP and should fix the issue.

Turning off blue tooth solved the problem for me. Inconvenient, I have to turn it on when leaving my house, it's synchronized to my car...wow. have to remember to turn it back off when I'm anywhere there is Wi-Fi
