Samsung Galaxy S6 Active not sending/receiving text messages

Many times my phone won't send or receive messages, including pictures and regular texts. It's completely random, and it doesn't matter if it's a different phone, different service provider, or the same. Sometimes my texts will go through and sometimes they won't. Sometimes I'll receive a text and sometimes I won't. Sometimes I have to send a text multiple times before it goes through. This is extremely frustrating, especially when my husband and I are trying to communicate with each other (he has the same phone and service).

Hello Everybody!

Thank you so much for all of the updates.

We are definitely looking into a fix now for the Advanced Messaging issues. Our network team is working on finding a permanent fix for this. Typically in situations such as this, a software update will be released to fix any known issues. We will keep you updated!

@adavisw, I do apologize that your Wi-Fi is not working! Check out our AT&T Troubleshoot & Resolve tool. After selecting your make and model, there will be an option for Wi-Fi under Service/network issues

You also mentioned that you were not able to pay your bill online. I am very sorry to hear that! Take a look at our support article for Ways to pay your bill for alternate methods.

If your Wi-Fi is not working on any of your devices, it may be an issue with the Wi-Fi itself. In this case, I recommend contacting the provider! If you have AT&T Wi-Fi, we do have an Internet Forum that can help you with that! It will be listed at the top, a few down from Wireless.

Let us know if you have any other questions! Have a wonderful day!

This seems to have fixed it for me... for now.

When they release a software update, will the release notes state this fix is included so we can go back and turn advanced messaging back on?

Just found this thread after many weeks of missed text messages to and from my wife.  We both have Galaxy S6 phones and Advanced Messaging was enabled on both.  I have just now disabled it hoping that it will at least temporarily fix the issue.  Just wondering if there is a real fix from AT&T yet.....

Tec told me they are aware of the issues and had known long before i posted, i keep calling for an update as my photos are all low res when i text. but no fix yet. i still think att or Samsung should have sent a mass text letting us know as they have the ability to do so.

Hello @Fayfay23,

We want to ensure you are able to use all features on your device! Text messaging is definitely an important form of communication, so I can understand how important it is to get this corrected. Let’s go over some great troubleshooting steps. This way, you will be able to use this feature.

It is great to hear you have attempted to troubleshoot your device! There can definitely be many reasons to why your device is not sending and receiving picture messages. By any chance, do you have an unlocked device? We have a great article which provides instructions on Programming non-AT&T devices with the correct APN and MMS settings. I recommend checking your device to confirm the APN settings are correct.

Another great step I advise to check up on is to ensure your device is connected to cellular data before sending and receiving messages. We have a great Device Support tool which provides step by step instructions. By selecting the make and model of your device, you will be directed to a personalized page for steps on turning on cellular data.

Let me know if this works for you. We are always happy to provide support if you encounter any issues. Have an amazing rest of your week!

My daughter recently switched her iPhone to a Samsung GalaxyS5 and for some reason, her text messages to me do not go through, unlike those of other texts send out to other people. How does she fix this?

This problem still exists as of Nov 2017.  I turned off the "Enhanced LTE Services"  and now it seems OK.

I guess it'll never be "fixed"
