Samsung Galaxy S6 Active not sending/receiving text messages

Many times my phone won't send or receive messages, including pictures and regular texts. It's completely random, and it doesn't matter if it's a different phone, different service provider, or the same. Sometimes my texts will go through and sometimes they won't. Sometimes I'll receive a text and sometimes I won't. Sometimes I have to send a text multiple times before it goes through. This is extremely frustrating, especially when my husband and I are trying to communicate with each other (he has the same phone and service).

Hello @Kmurcks!

I do apologize that you are experiencing these issues as well! I know how frustrating it must be and I will be happy to help!

Does this happen when you have Advanced Messaging turned off? This can be turned off by:

  1. From your home screen, select Messages
  2. Select More in the top right hand corner
  3. Tap Settings
  4. Choose Advanced Messaging
  5. Toggle Off

Once this is off, let’s test out to see if you are able to send and receive messages.

Keep us posted! Have a great day!

Hello @got2betrue!

Oh no! I am so sorry to hear that you are having issues with your text messaging services! That does sound super frustrating. I will be happy to help get that fixed!

First, let’s make sure that your software is up to date! It looks like the most recent updates released for your device includes performance enhancements for Messaging services. In order to update the software, follow these steps:

  1. From the device home screen, pull down the notification shade and tap Settings
  2. Scroll over to the System category
  3. Choose About Device
  4. Tap Software Update
  5. Select Check for updates
  6. Follow the on screen prompts to download and install the latest updates

If that does not work, check out our AT&T Troubleshoot & Resolve tool! After selecting your make and model, there will be an option for Messaging under Service/network issues.

Keep us updated and let us know how that goes! Thank you so much and have a fantastic day!

I'm having the same problem. My software is up to date and none of these options helped. My husband and I both have Galaxy S7s. We keep having to resend and resend until we finally just call each other. Half of our pic texts come in, the rest are distorted or won't come in at all... again resending and resending. We sometimes have that problem with text messages too. My mother in law also has AT&T, but an iPhone 6. She can't get half of our messages as well... as a matter of fact ANY AT&T customer we try to send them to has the same problem. I'm wondering if it is because we don't get good service either. I hope this is fixed soon because I'm about ready to look for a different provider.

yes turning off the advance messaging is the cure. att has know this is a samsung issue for 3 weeks or so the tech rep told me 5 min ago. it would have been nice to receive a text message or bill flyer or email as i got many about my note 7 and note 7 exchange so i know att has the ability to do a mass email, text or bill notification. but instead I have just been up set for 3 weeks when trying to text and receieve text. Thank you ATT

Wow, I had not heard that. I find it kind of ridiculous that, well, 1.) We have to do this, 2.) It's took them this long, 3.)We weren't informed, 4.) We most likely will not get a discount for the inconvenience. I've been dealing with this problem for WEEKS(months?) now, hoping each update fixes it. I'm a new customer to AT&T and this isn't the way I'd hope to start my new business relationship... not to mention the poor signal at my house. I had hoped for better coming from them but I'm pretty disappointed.

I turned off advanced messaging, and that seems to have fixed it. It is frustrating though that I have to do that in order to make my messages go through. If I'm paying for something, I want it to work.

I  admit to having limited understanding of the many machinations provided for on-line users; however, I CAN read, and I have no idea WHY I do not have the Wifi service so loudly touted by AT&T for either my cell phone, or my Samsung tablet.  Cannot outfox your "Chat" service so that I can pay my bill on-line.

I am beginning to think that going back to AT&T was a HUGE mistake.
