AT&T appending numbers before contact phone # - generating "Error Invalid Number." message

My dad's phone (Samsung S10) has suddenly started appending digits in front of my phone number in his SMS even though in his contact list my number appears as the correct 10-digit number.  All the texts to me are bouncing.  I deleted my contact entry out of his phone, deleted the text thread, and then tried to text my straight 10-digit number - it still generated the error "Error Invalid Number. Please re-send using a valid 10 digit mobile number of valid short code."  It is putting "1182" in front of my 10 digit number for some reason.  I also reset his network settings and same result.

My dad cannot reply to any of my texts - please help.  I also have an S10 on AT&T but I don't think that matters.

Thank you,

Gina

Hello @CrazySaguaro,

We'd be more than happy to take a closer look into why you're unable to receive his text messages. We'll need some more details in order for us to better assist you. How long has this been going on? Is he experiencing this same issue when trying to send text messages to other phone numbers? Are you having any issues with receiving text messages from other contacts? Please let us know. We look forward to hearing back from you.

This has been going on a few weeks.    He is not experiencing issues with other numbers.  I am not having issues receiving texts from anyone else.

Thank you,

Hello @CrazySaguaro,

Thank you for informing us. Does your father have wireless service with AT&T or another carrier? If he has an account with AT&T, are both of you on separate accounts? Are you an authorized user on his AT&T account? Please let us know. We look forward to hearing back from you.

Hello @CrazySaguaro,

Thank you for letting us know. We recommend having him put the device in Safe Mode and trying to send the text message again. It will help you rule out problematic apps as the cause of your device problems by allowing your phone to run as normal while restricting third-party apps or services from being used. If you're still experiencing this issue while in Safe Mode, please Backup the data on the device and Perform a factory reset. Once this is completed, try sending the text message immediately again, then once more after Restoring your data from the backup. Let us know if this helps.

This issue is resolved.  After a factory reset, the issue was still happening.  So I stopped using the default "Messages" app and started using a 3rd party SMS app (Pulse).  All texts go through using that with no problem.

There is some sort of issue with the AT&T network and the default Android Messages app as this happened on the factory reset phone before restoring my dad's contacts and settings.

Anyone else having this issue should just try a 3rd party messaging app to see if that quickly resolves the issue for them.
