Keeping your phone secure is always a wonderful idea but I also understand locking even yourself out. My mother was messing around with her pattern unlock and completely locked herself out. I would be happy to help you.
If it wasn’t your Google Account password you forgot you can go to Google’s Android Device Manager and select “Lock”. You will then need to enter in a temporary password then select Lock. If it was successful you will see a password field where you can enter the temporary password.
Next step if the previous step did not work is to erase the phone from Google Android Device Manager. This will clear everything off your phone, including the password requirement for the lock screen.
If you set up Samsung’s find my phone you can also unlock the device through their website. You can find more information about it here.
Last resort would be to completely factory reset your phone. We have instructions on how to do this on our Device Support page. Please choose your correct make & model, then choose Tutorials, and finally Backup & reset.
