Samsung J3 wifi problems

Just wondering if anyone else is having trouble with in home wifi?  My phone keeps shutting off the wifi connection if I don't use it for 5 minutes, then I have to sign back on -- my other phones never did that.  Is there some settng I have to change?

When I purchased the phone, I couldn't download apps with the wifi I had.  I contacted the router company and they found another wifi through my ISP modem and that one worked.  They were good and set up a password for that wifi -- but I had to sign up for a $ 300 service agreement.  No choice: ATT, Samsung and my ISP couldn't get the wifi to let me download apps.

About 2 weeks ago, the phone stopped recognizing the wifi password.  I had to contact the router company again and thank goodness I have the service agreement -- she changed the password.  Don't know how long that will be ok.

A bit bothered by this, but I do like the phone, so hope someone has some ideas about thsi...

Hello @LH5743!

Thanks for joining our Community Forum, and welcome aboard! We’re glad to have you! I hope you’ve been having a great summer so far!

I’m so sorry to hear about the problems you’ve had with your phone’s connection to your home Wi-Fi router. I absolutely understand how frustrating that would be, and I’m glad that the issues with downloading apps and resetting your Wi-Fi password were resolved.

In regard to your phone losing connectivity with your router after a few minute, the first thing I would try is to power both your phone and router all the way off and back on again – many times this alone can fix the issue.

I would also suggest turning off the “Smart network switch” option on your phone, which automatically disconnects you from a Wi-Fi network if the 4G LTE data network’s signal appears to be stronger.

Here are the steps to do that:

  1. While connected to Wi-Fi, tap SETTINGS
  2. Tap “Connections”
  3. Tap “Wi-Fi”
  4. Tap “More” in the top right corner
  5. Tap “Smart network switch”
  6. Tap to turn to “Off”

If you’re still experiencing this after trying the steps above, you may want to perform a complete reset on your router, which the manufacturer can definitely walk you through.

I hope this helps, and please let us know if you have any other questions! Thanks for contacting us, and have an awesome rest of your day!

Thanks for the tip.. That switch was off. So I guess I will have to do the reset. Also, I wondered if this app is worth downloading? 360 security and antivirus boost? It popped up when I sent my question in.

Hello @LH5743 !

You bet! I will be happy to help!

Personally, I do like the 360 Security – Antivirus Boost app! It has good reviews, and is really easy to use (and fast)! If you don’t have a security app on your device, this is a good option.

Let us know if you have any other questions! Have a good one!

There is another place in the advanced wifi settings you can check. Under keep wifi on during sleep 1) always 2) only when plugged in 3) never. If you have selected never, once the phone go into sleep after whatever time limit you have set, the wifi will turn off.

Hello there @justdirt!

It would be my pleasure to assist you with this question. To make sure I understand correctly, did you use your phone number as you router’s password, or did you used it to access your router’s configuration screen as the web address?

If you have a U-verse modem/router, please visit this link for instructions on how to change the access password for it. Once there, you can select the model of your current device, and follow the steps. It’s a breeze!

In case the above information doesn’t answer your question or you need further assistance, please send us a private message to @ATTU-VerseCare with your name, phone number, and an explanation of the problem you are encountering.

I hope this answers your question, have a fantastic weekend!
