Buy One get ONE free- NEVER. It was all a lie

I have been a loyal customer for 9 years, use the direct tv bundle. I have been swindled by AT&T for the last 6 months and I have been paying for 2 phones although I was told that I need to only pay for one and DONT need to get a new line. It is all a big scam. Today after all escalations and still not getting any credit for the 2nd phone and having paid close to $150 for the second phone, I was told that there is nothing they can do about it. The agent did agree that AT&T had misinformed me in various places but said that she cant fix the system to pay my dues back.

How do we take this to court?

Hi there @ssatyanarayana,

Thank you for reaching out to us on the Community Forums! I am very sorry to hear of the recent predicament you have been placed into with one of our pay Buy-One Get-One offers. I am sure we can work toward finding a solution.

Looking back at our Summer BOGO offer, I see it began July 14 and ended August, 31 2016; is this one you are referring to? I would like to research into this further for you, but I will need some additional details. If you can please send us a private message @ATTMobilityCare, including your full name, account number, the best time and method to reach you; I would greatly appreciated it. Any other information you have would also be very welcome.

I look forward to hearing back from you so we can get this all taken care of.

I have the same problem they told me it was buy one get one free and yet I still have to pay for the second phone and they'll give me credits each month that forces me to stay with ATT service.

You can leave any time you want, you just don't get the credits if you leave.

You're not forced to stay any more than you were forced to take the offer for the free phone.

I love my free iPhone 7!  I'll sure I'll stay long enough to get all of my credits, but if I don't, I understand that I won't qualify any more.

How dopey would ATT be if they gave away a free phone without making you pay for service long enough to make up the difference?  Big promotions are to add service to the network, that's how ATT makes money.  Phones are how manufacturers make money and have a relatively small markup in the past 3 years.  Many of the sales are subsidized by manufactures to boost sales numbers.

You are forced to stay if you don't pay off the (free phone) its only free if you keep it on there network other wise you have to pay $849.99 plus tax to switch to another network.

and the credits takes about 2 years to pay off the phone.

It would only be $849.99 if you got a $849.99 phone and left the next day. Are you just trying to get a free phone and thought there would be no measures in place?

There is no FORCING, if you don't stay they stop paying for your credits. You can leave at any time there is no penalty, there is just a benefit of a free phone payment if you stay. That seems perfectly clear and obvious.

That's pretty much been the concept behind cellphones and carriers since forever, "we give you a free phone IF you stay for a few years".

For the Next phones you sign up and commit to paying for a phone and they give you a phone (it's your phone). If you leave the rest of the no interest payments are due immediately. If you are on some kind of free offer, they credit your bill monthly, if you leave you have no account to credit the money to.

You pay for the one phone thats aready 849.99 plus tax you get the other free. once the 1st phones paid off the other should be as well. The Bogo is to get people to buy from them the **bleep** credit is to force you to stay on there network. You have a penalty if you leave there network they make you pay for the free phone.

Did you not read the requirements of the get one free? It is a 24 month contract that you get credited every month and if you cancel before the end of the contract, you pay the balance.

AT&T is not going to give you a $850 phone and not have you stay with them until they recoup the cost of the phone.

I was told it was free by the sales person that was selling me the phone.

[Please keep it courteous.]

And there wasn't a line out the door for a bunch of people getting free phones with no commitment???

I'm sorry if you were caught by surprise and that they weren't just giving out free phones with no catch.

It's only free if you stay with the carrier. SEEMS FAIR TO ME,

It's pretty much the same thing that T-Mobile, Sprint, Verizon, etc. has done for years and years.

If you choose the 2-year option, all you have to do is pay your bill monthly and they keep crediting $27.09 to you account, which covers $650 of your smartphone price. That's actually better than when you had to put $199 down for a $650 smartphone!
