Can I signup for Uverse Internet and use my own Modem/Gateway?
What's the dealio on signing up for Uverse service using my own Modem/Gateway. Is it possible? Is it allowed?
I have heard that I must rent-from-ATT for $7 a month,,,Or buy from ATT for $100. Is this true?
Assuming it is true,,, can I rent from ATT for $7 to start and then replace the ATT rental with my own modem of the exact same brand/model Gateway?
A related question... Can I signup for Uverse Internet, Buy a Modem/Gateway from ATT for $100, Cancel Uverse Internet, and then signup a second time using my previously-purchased-from-ATT modem/Gateway? Or do I have to buy a new $100 modem each and every time I signup for service?

It is not possible. You must use an AT&T gateway. Effective January 2015, you may not purchase, you must use one of theirs and pay a monthly fee (grandfathering applies to those already using purchased equipment).

Not possible! Okay, I got it. I must pay $7 per month/$84 per year/$840 per decade FOREVER!!
What's wrong with that you say? Let me count the ways.
Or better yet, let me file an Open Internet/Net Neutrality FCC complaint. Which is what I did...

Totally agree. I also filed an FCC complaint here. This is a money grab with no effort at environmental responsibility. Let's just create as much waste as possible and suck every dime out of consumers.

There is nothing to complain about there, doesn't say anything about not having to pay a monthly equipment fee for Internet access.

Yes I am sure that you are right about the forced rental fees being within the letter of the law. It's ironic that your comment only serves to underscore our problem with this policy.
It also say doesn't say anything about turning home Wi-Fi routers into public hotspots. Yet Comcast is currently facing a class action lawsuit for plugging some of our home wireless routers into a "power-wasting, Internet-clogging, privacy threatening network of public Wi-Fi hotspots".
Why not do something that is beneficial for ATT customers rather than hiring bean counters who can quote the letter-of-the-law and advise ATT on how to skirt the law?
Back to the main point...My complaint was that the fee is disproportionately burdensome to working class people who cannot afford triple play services and only wish to obtain Internet access.

Any user that was on VDSL has been paying this fee for 3-4 years now. As I've posted b4 it used to be a $100 RG fee on ADSL2+. Do you not think that was unfair?

You won't have to pay $7 per mo. forever, because the price will increase before forever!
Have a Happy 4th, 🙂
