I would like to correct a few minor technical issues:
1 "One AT&T TV channel uses about 8Mbps" A SD channel uses just under 2 Mbps on average. An HD channel use averages just under 6 Mbps.
2) " AT&T’s 24Mbps service (which is actually 36Mbps—they give you another 12Mbps for the TV service". AT&T provides a connection profile that is used for whatever services are at the home. The connection profile may allow 25, 32, 45 or 55 Mbps downstream. From this VOIP has first priority, but miniscule bandwidth requirements. Next comes actively used IPTV streams. HSI can have whatever is left, up to the maximum subscribed to by the user (and often, just a wee bit more). Most current U-verse subscribers who have 24 Mbps HSI have a profile that allows a total of 32 Mbps down.

Thanks for the corrections. Yes, my own notes have your numbers too--I don't know why I wrote them wrong. It's pretty amazing that we can get a full HDTV channel with 6 Mbps. Maybe I didn't believe it myself.
