HDCP authentication failure?

Suddenly....around 1:30 AM this morning our HD signal died and we got a message reporting HDCP Authentication failure.  After about 30 seconds that was followed by an HDMI failure message and a screen with troubleshooting suggestions.  THEN....it all disappeared and the screen was just "snow" with zero sound.  BUT.....when I switched over to the output from the VCR which is connected to the component outputs of the DVR the signal...picture & audio....were perfect.  I followed all the instructions to restore the HD picture but to no avail.  Then, in desperation, I performed the soft reboot of the DVR by holding the power button in for about 10 seconds.  After the rather lengthy reboot everything went back to normal and it has stayed that way.   In 4 1/2 years this was a first for us I think.  I wonder if it was an update...followed by a reboot that went sour or something like that.

Phil, I've had that happen 2 or 3 times during my almost 4 years on Uverse and the fix was a reboot of the DVR.  My component connection worked fine, but the HDMI link had failed and gotten 'snow' too. Smiley Very Happy

I've never seen that one either, but do sometimes get the HDMI error on one TV.

 

Do you have the same version showing up?

This situation involved our DVR and our 55" Sony HDTV.  Never have had any HDMI problems with this combination......never.  And...we've never received that HDCP authentication failure report.   Have not had any repeat of the problem today or this evening.  Strange.

 

Our TV2 client version is 2.1.2295.10     I think that is what it was before.

I had an oddity happen a while back and took a photo; maybe I need to dig that up.

OK.  Thanks, Chris.  So it has happened to others.  Well...it was a new one for us.  Kind of stymied me for a bit because I'd never seen it before.  All OK now.

The HDCP error is a copy protection error that occurs usually when trying to run another input off a box along with having HDMI connected.  It because the HDMI standard includes copy protection.  Had this happen with customers and after removing the other output and rebooting the box, doesn't happen.

I had this issue last night.  Rebooting the DVR fixed it but we lost 3-5 minutes of the Prime time shows that we were recording.  We have only used HDMI for 3 weeks, so this sounds like it could be problematic, especially if you have to reboot during Prime Time.  Both of my new sets only have one shared set of component / composite inputs, so that would not be an option, as they are in use.

I can no longer receive a picture (sound OK), only a blue screen on TV shows from Netflix and Hulu through ROKU. Says HDCP is disabled. My other TV, also with ROKU continues to work fine. Any thoughts?

bob515 - My suggestion is that you swap the two ROKU to determine if it is the Roku or the TV. If you are lucky, both will work.

Done that. No luck. In fact I also tried an Apple T. The message I get reads "HDCP unauthorized Congtent disabled."

bob515 - You say the same TV still fails with different devices & the different devices work on another TV??
Then there is a problem with the TV or the HDMI cable. Does the TV have multiple HDMI inputs? Try a different one/ If your TV accepts software changes that may fix it.

Does the Roku have component output. Use that, or get an HDMI to component converter.
