Hey @cjl.76!

I can certainly help you out with that! Thank you for considering the AT&T Family for your wireless services!

When porting the phone over from Verizon to AT&T, the first thing to check on is the device compatibility. A great article that we have though the AT&T website is Bring your own phone to AT&T. This will walk you through everything you need to know before canceling service with Verizon. That’s the LAST thing we want you to do, we want this to be as smooth of a process for you as possible!

You can bring your own phone or tablet to AT&T if your device works on one of these GSM network frequencies:

  • 3G UMTS network - 850/1900MHz bands
  • 4G LTE network - AWS/700/850/1900MHz bands

To check the network frequencies your phone supports, visit your device manufacturer’s website.

Once you check on that, you can select to order a new SIM card through the mail or go into any AT&T Corporate store location, get a new SIM card activated free of charge and service started on a new account. Keep in mind, that there will be a one-time activation fee for a new account.

Hope you got all the information you needed! If you have any other questions, definitely feel free to reach back out to me through this post! Take care and have a great rest of your week!

Thank you Tim for the info. I wanted to be clear though I can do the porting even if I go to a prepaid plan on at&t??? And how would that process work? I'm on an Apple iPhone 6s Plus so I know the device is compatible.

Hi @cjl.76,

You can port from a Verizon prepaid account to an AT&T GoPhone account.

To ensure eligiblity, you can check that your number is capable of being ported to AT&T here: https://www.att.com/shop/wireless/transferyournumber.html

Most numbers are capable, but it's worth double checking.

You can do this in a store at the time you're purchasing your GoPhone (at AT&T company stores) or over the phone after you've activated your GoPhone service.

Some things to make sure of:

 - Don't cancel your Verizon service ahead of time, the port will take care of that

 - The port should take no longer than 1-3 business hours to complete, but could take longer, but usually is complete within minutes

You'll need the phone number you wish to transfer, your Verizon account number, the account PIN, the name on the account, the billing address on the account, and although your Verizon prepaid account won't have one and your GoPhone account won't have one, you'll need to provide a social security number.
