Not Receiving All text Messages

In the last month or so I have not been getting all the text messages form my wife. I cannot tell how many that I have missed other than my wife asking me why I didn't respond to one of her messages. She is using a Samsung Galaxy S9, i'm using a Google Pixel 2xl. I did go to the AT&T store to get new sim cards last week in hopes this would fix the issue. Well it happened again the other day. I dont know if it's Googles messanger, AT&T changed something on their end since I'm not using an AT&T phone. I see they disabled wifi calling on my phone as I no longer have that option even though it's available. Also my cell service seems spotty at my house now when it wasn't before. I really don't want to change phones, I really like the Pixel phone. just curious if anyone else has run into this issue.

Greetings @gadget69!

Allow us to assist. As recommended in the previous reply, make sure you try updating your E911 address by navigating to Settings app > Advanced Calling > WiFi Calling > Update Emergency Address.

Also, see if your experience continues in Safe Mode:

  1. Press and hold down the Power button for several seconds.
  2. Release the Power button when the Power Menu displays.
  3. Press and hold the Power Off option for a few seconds.
  4. When the Power Menu disappears, a new dialog box should display for Safe Mode.
  5. Read the description and tap the OK button to boot the Pixel 2 into Safe Mode.

If your experience persists despite the first step, try resolving your experience with a Factory Reset.

Let us know how this worked for you.

Hello @gadget69,

We can definitely answer that question for you. Unfortunately, your cell phone is not listed because it is not an AT&T device. Because you're having issues with receiving text messages, you may need to Program the correct data settings for a non-AT&T Android device. Let us know if this helps.

The apn is set correctly. The phone provisioned itself last year when I started using it. It's only been the last few months this has started to become an issue. I used to have the option for wifi calling, that too has disappeared. I know this is not an at&t phone, but it is unlocked gsm and should work regardless. As much as I enjoy at&t's coverage and decent speeds in my area I may have to stray somewhere else.

The other issue that recently popped up after getting the new sim is poor call quality. If I get forced to get a new phone I will find service with someone else.

Oh, and one other thing that has changed since getting a new sim card, now when dialing voicemail, instead of saying voicemail on the screen it says sms settings.

We understand your frustration, @gadget69! While we can't guarantee that any unlocked non-AT&T device will work with our services, we definitely want to try to get yours working!

You may need to update your E911 address in order to get your WiFi Calling working again. Just open your Settings app, then go to Advanced Calling>WiFi Calling>Update Emergency Address

Have you tried any troubleshooting with your wife's device? If she is the only person that you sometimes can't receive texts from, the source of the problem may be coming from her device.

If all other troubleshooting options for the text messaging has been exhausted, have you tried doing a factory reset on the device? Let us know if you would like us to assist you that!

Hope this helps!

My wifes phone is fine. I'm getting irritated every time I go into a store something changes on my phone. Now I get the sms settings on my call screen when trying to access voicemail when it used to say voicemail. How should getting a new sim card effect that? It's not my phone its features that at&t are inhibiting.
