New prepaid acct, xfer phone#...Will order of SIM+Prepaid plan start # transfer before card arrives?

I'm planning on swapping carriers from Google Fi to AT&T using the new $40/mo auto-pay plan.  I need a sim card, but I cannot seem to order just the sim card and I have to enter my new account details as well.  Ideally I'd like to order a SIM card, then have the card present when I activate/buy monthly service.  How will ordering a SIM+Prepaid+Number Transfer online work?

Will the activation happen instantly so my # is unusable while it's being mailed?

Can I order just the SIM card to avoid this hassle?

Thanks

Re: New prepaid acct, xfer phone#...

Hello, @Chickencake,

We'd love to help with this. You can order a SIM card online but you won't need to activate service on the device until you activate the SIM card. Here's information on how to transfer your number to your new AT&T account. If you do it online yourself, it will take up to three to five business days to complete the transfer.

If you have an AT&T Store nearby, you can set an appointment to save time, pick up the SIM card and activate it, and transfer your number over. Porting the number usually only takes only a few hours when done in a store.

Have a great week!
