iPhone 8 Plus Backorder

I order an iPhone 8 Plus upgrade on 12/5. It was supposed to deliver by 12/10. I called to see why it hadn’t been shipped yet and was told they were very busy but it would absolutely arrive by Christmas as it is a present for my daughter! Woke up to an email saying it won’t ship until 1/5/19?!?! The website to order still shows delivery by 12/13-12/17, which I find to be misleading as they know they are on backorder! And I’ve already been charged the “upgrade fee”! Anyone have experience with this? Is there any hope it may come early??
