Open Nat Type On Phone Hotspot

Hello, ive been trying for awhile now to achieve getting an open nat type on my ps4 while using my Iphone and sony xperia Z5 premium's hotspot. I tried many things to change my nat type from 3 down to 1, but never worked. Can someone tell me what i could do to change my phones hotspot nat type to Open? Thank you.

Hi there @Sean_P!

Update!!!

Most mobile hotspots, and smartphones, do not support a UPnP routing option. However, the option to update UpnP recently became available on the AT&T Nighthawk LTE Mobile Hotspot Router.

  1. From a computer that is connected to the Nighthawk router, launch a web browser.
    • To view the mobile router Wi-Fi network name, press the router Power button to navigate through screens until the Wi-Fi network name (SSID) displays.
  2. Enter http://attwifimanager in the web browser.
  3. A login page displays; enter the administrator login password.
  4. The dashboard displays; select Settings > Router > Basic.
  5. Turn on UPnP.

Note: This is only an option on the Nighthawk because of its ability to route.

You have a regular Hotspot, tethering a computer may be an option and use the Internet Sharing option from the laptop itself. My understanding of this method is that the connection ends up slowing down though, since it’s going through a tertiary device. The option for internet sharing will vary depending on your computer’s operating system.

My sincerest apologies for any inconvenience this might cause! If you have any other questions please let me know and I’ll do my best to answer them. Thanks and have a great day!

This is not a solution, I just spent 360 dollars on the M1 router. Enabling UpnP and setup port forwarding did not change my NAT type at all.

Just wondering why Verizon's mobile hot spots and smart phones both work for moderate nat type? That's really all you need is a moderate to be able to play with friends unless they are on a strict. then you would need an open to play with them. I have tried teathering to a lap top and it didn't make a difference In the nat type. I have heated that att keep you on a private network that won't allow public ports incoming. That's why it stays on a strict? I have also heard that att can open the network. Business lines with att are from what I have heard not on a private network so it would allow a moderate or open. Is this true?

So it's not solved. If fact that would be intentionally misleading, wouldn't it.

After talking to att cares on social media the only way to help the NAT would be to have a custom APN set up. You can only do this through a business line. I switched to Verizon because of this. Not saying att is bad, they just couldn't meet my personal preferences

If there is a known issue with hot spots NAT types for online gamers why is At&t not addressing and correcting the issue? I have both At&t smartphones and Verizon smartphones and my kids can online game with the Verizon smartphones and not the At&t smartphones, no matter the smartphone type or manufacture. This is purely a knowingly network restriction to At&t users from At&t, why? Doesn't At&t want to be competitive with Verizon?

AT&T isn’t good enough to let people game. We use too much data.
