Android & security updates on Prepaid service ?
I am considering getting an unlocked Moto G6 to use on my prepaid service.
Will I receive the Android & security updates pushed out from Motorola, or will AT&T block them because I am not on a contract? Last time I asked (about 2 years ago) the forum users all said no, the AT&T employees here said yes, when available. I never received any and pursued this with support. I was finally told the marketing department would not allow updates for GoPhones.
I recently was told by AT&T, that policy has changed to allow updates. Does anyone know for certain?
Any feedback appreciated.

Hello @Madcow,
We can definitely answer that question for you. Software update releases are only available for AT&T branded devices. The device must also be on the AT&T network to download the update. You may need to contact the original carrier, or manufacturer, to download the latest updates if your device is not AT&T Branded. You can Learn more about Software updates here. Let us know if you have any further questions or concerns.

@Madcow
Updates come direct from Moto/Lenovo and will not be affected by ATT at all. Updates are not restricted by plan.
Dont know who told you otherwise.
Now the reverse is true. An ATT Android must be used on ATT to get any updates.

Thanks to you both for the replies. I did get the Moto G6 and within a few minutes I received security updates.
