In order for the Curve to work with your current SIM it must be either AT&T branded OR unlocked. You can put your SIM in and be good to go. The BB data plan will only added at your request. I have used multiple BB devices without a data plan. Once you get your Curve you will need to set the browser to "Hot Spot" to use the wifi.
