Windows 10 Upgrade for Lumia 640XL

When is AT&T pushing out the Windows 8.1 to Windows 10 upgrade for my Microsoft Lumia 640XL? The Windows 10 Upgrade Advisor says my Microsoft Lumia 640XL is eligible for the upgrade. The upgrade was released months ago. I am tired of waiting and waiting and waiting.

After uninstalling and reinstalling the Windows 10 Upgrade Advisor I was able to start the Windows 10 update. However, my phone has been stuck at 60% download for about an hour now. I am waiting and waiting.

It took hours, but I was able to upgrade my Lumia 950XL to Windows 10. Now I can't send or receive text messages. It says says go to Settings>Privacy>Contacts and turn on Messeging. It will not let me turn it on!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hello @TWolfRed

I apologize that you are unable to send or receive messages! I will be happy to help! Congratulations on upgrading to Windows 10 by the way! I know how important it is to be able to send and receive messages, so let’s figure out what is going on.

Since it is not letting you change this option in contacts, let’s try something different. After accessing your Settings > Privacy, let’s scroll down to the Messaging option. From here you should see a list of applications that want permission to send and receive messages. Make sure the appropriate Messaging apps are turned on through here.

If that does not allow you to change it either, you may want to try a backup and reset! This way all of your settings will default back to the original settings and no third party apps or services will be able to affect these.

For backup methods for your device, check out our Device Support Center! After selecting your make and model, choose Tutorials > Backup & Restore.

Reset instructions can be found in Tutorials > Troubleshooting > Reset Device.

After doing some research on this issue, I have found that this seems to be a common issue. However, it does look like a factory reset should have that resolved for you!

Keep us updated! Thank you so much and have a fantastic day!
