Unansweres unknown callers

I have been getting charged for calls I never answer.  If I don't recognize the number I don't answer, but I still have to pay for the call.  Why should I have to pay for someone else's phone call?  I don't remember this being part of my plan.  Is this a mistake or what?

I completely understand how important it is to not have to receive charges for spam calls. I am going to contact you via private message to check further into this for you.

Thank you for your help. I thought this had to be wrong to be charged for calls I did not make or answer.

Re: Re: Unansweres unknown callers

Those charges for unanswered calls are very possible. Most customers have unlimited minutes, so they never notice but according to paragraph 5.1 of the wireless agreement: https://www.att.com/legal/terms.wirelessCustomerAgreement-list.html:

“Chargeable Time begins for outgoing calls when you press SEND (or similar key) and for incoming calls when a signal connection from the caller is established with our facilities”.

This means chargeable time starts as soon as your phone rings, not when you answer it. Now, normally you are not charged if you don’t answer but it is possible. The next paragraph says,

“All outgoing calls for which we receive answer supervision or which have at least 30 seconds of Chargeable Time, including ring time, shall incur a minimum of one minute airtime charge. Answer supervision is generally received when a call is answered; however, answer supervision may also be generated by voicemail systems, private branch exchanges, and interexchange switching equipment. Chargeable Time may include time for us to recognize that only one party has disconnected from the call, time to clear the channels in use, and ring time. ”

What this all means is that it is very possible to get charged a minute for a call not answered and the charge is legitimate per the wireless agreement. I hope ATTCares follows up but be prepared to be told the charges are legit.
