Same Plan, Same 3G, Upgraded Phone... Do I need to use the new SIM card?

I upgraded from a Motorola Razor V9 to an LG Xpression.

I'm still on the same family plan, still using 3G, still using the same phone number.

Do I need to use the new sim card provided with the phone? Or can I use my old sim card?

Thanks!

Old sim should worked regardless of whether new phone is locked or not as long as you have not activated the new sim. If you follow the activation instructions that came with the new phone and activate the new sim, then the old sim will stop working.
