How to change a replacement AT&T SIM card

Phone Not Working After Moving SIM Card

Got a new phone? Want to switch between phones? No matter what the reason, changing out the SIM card and getting your phone working is very easy.

Swap SIM card

To swap a SIM, sign in to your myAT&T account to complete the following steps. If you’re new to using myAT&T to manage your AT&T PREPAID (formerly GoPhone) account, the user name is your 10-digit wireless number, and the initial password is the last 4 digits of your wireless number.

  1. At the top of the page, select My Device.
  2. Select Update Device.
  3. Enter the IMEI, enter *#06# on your device to get your IMEI.
  4. Enter the SIM Card Number.
  5. Select Continue.
  6. Power off the device.
  7. Remove the old SIM card.
  8. Insert the new SIM card.
  9. Power on the device.

Data Service not Working after Swapping the SIM Card

If after swapping the SIM and confirming or adding a compatible data feature, you still can’t use data, you may need to program the correct APN and MMS data settings to use data services on the new device.

iPhone doesn’t show AT&T in the status bar

  1. Connect your device to iTunes®. Still not working?
  2. Go to att.com/softwareupdates.
  3. Enter the requested info and follow the prompts to update your account with your new SIM card and IMEI number.

Hi there @nipseygreen,

Welcome to the Community Forums! Thank you for reaching out to us with your device concerns. I’m sorry to hear you are having trouble making and receiving calls. This is definitely something we want to make sure gets taken care of. I am more than happy to help!

When swapping SIM cards between devices, the communication between the phone and the network can get mixed up, this can cause your device to not work properly.

To fix this mix up, simply update the IMEI and SIM card number for your device. To do this, log into your myAT&T account, at the top of the page, select My Device. Chose the device you would like update. Enter your new IMEI and SIM card number, the IMEI can be found by dialing *#06# on your phone, the SIM card number is located on the punch card you received, this number is also referred to as the ICCID.

After these numbers have been updated, select Continue and power off the device. You will want to remove the old SIM card and insert the new one. Power the device back on and place a test call. For additional information, here is an article for you to reference.

I hope this helps. If you the issue continues after trying the above steps, please feel free to reach back out to us. Take care and have a great day!

I just bought a verizon Galaxy S6 to replace my broken ATT S6.   I am using my ATT sim card which at first the data didn't work but I could make calls but now the data is working but I can't make phone call/texts. Stating my balance is to low.  I have a prepaid plan and I paid my bill last week.  Not understanding what that means.
