SIM Card Activation

My mother just used an upgrade on a different AT&T account to order an iPhone 5. She is giving me the phone to use on my account, but how can this be done? How do we activate the phone and switch the SIM to use the phone on my account? Thanks!

If there is a nearby corporate AT&T store, I would take it there for the SIM switch. I don't know if they are still doing this, but they used to, if the phone was purchased online, it HAD to activated first on the line used for the upgrade (as a security measure to keep them from being stolen and activated), then could be switched to another account. When the phone is activated on your mother's account, her old SIM will be deactivated and once deactivated it cannot be reactivated, so she will need a new SIM. then they will have to activate a new SIM for you to use the iPhone.
It is best to be done in store.
