Putting SIM card from an in contract AT&T phone in an unlocked phone

I have ordered an unlocked smartphone from Amazon (BLU) and I need a sim card to test the new phone. I have an AT&T Galaxy S5 that is still in a 2-year contract. Is it ok to take the sim card from the S5 to test the new phone for a few days and put it back to the S5? This should theoretically be piece of cake. What I am worried about is if there will be any violation of service contract terms.

Hey @PML001!

I can totally help you out with that! You’re 100% correct, it is definitely a piece of cake! I love cake! LOL

As long as the SIM card fits into the unlocked BLU device, you are good on testing it in the phone. To make sure that you receive full data service on the phone, you’ll just need to contact us so we can update the IMEI number on the account. If you then select to go back to the Samsung Galaxy S5, it will be the same process, remove the SIM card, place it into the phone, and change the IMEI number to represent the current phone you’re using on the account.

Since you purchased the phone through Amazon, it will require going into any AT&T Corporate store location or going through our activate a new phone website for a new SIM card if you are then wanting to use both phones (i.e. Add a Line). It is free of charge and you will need the phone on hand to have the service activated.

Take care! Hope this answers your question! If you need any additional help, just let me know and get back to me here through this post! Have a fantastic week!

If you are trying the Blu R1 HD it also uses a micro SIM card.

You will need to program the APN settings for ATT for the phone to work on the network.

Thanks for the help. Was just trying to make sure both sim slots are working. This phone will mainly be used for my overseas travel as AT&T refused to unlock my regular phone because it is under contract. Also losing this phone will be much less painful than losing the Galaxy.
