Hello Community!

 

AT&T released a new Windows 10 update (MR1) on June 2, 2016, for the Microsoft Lumia 640 (SKUs 6764A, 6765A, 6766A). The Windows 10 update is only available over Wi-Fi via the Windows 10 Upgrade Advisor app, which you need to download from the Windows app store. A Wi-Fi connection is required.

Software Update Includes


Windows 10 operating system:

  • Built-in Applications – photos, maps, messaging, music, video, and more
  • Cortana - personal assistant
  • Improved multi-task and organize capability for improved productivity
  • OneDrive - online storage
  • Secureboot - supports quick and secure reboot
  • Windows Defender - malicious malware protection
  • Windows Store - for access to hundreds of thousands of applications

 


Software Update Download/Update Instructions

  • Notifications and availability will be released to the eligible customer base.
  • Notification will be sent to your device when you are eligible for the available update.
    • You may also check availability of the update from the Start Screen by scrolling down to and tapping Settings > Phone Update > Check for Update.
  • You will receive a notice similar to this: Your update is ready to be installed and you won’t be able to use your phone while the update installs. This should take 15 to 20 minutes, but could take longer.
  • If you select to postpone installation of the update, the notification will pop up again in about two days. The notification cannot be postponed permanently.
  • When the software update process is completed, you will see a message similar to this: Your update is done! Update completed!

 

Download Instructions

  1. The upgrade to Windows 10 is an “opt-in” experience.
  2. You will need to download and install the Windows Upgrade Advisor app on their device, and enable it for the upgrade.
    • Enable must be checked to get the upgrade.
  3. If the upgrade is available, you are directed to go to Settings to download and install the upgrade.
  4. If upgrade is not yet available for that device, you will see a message informing them the update is not yet available and to check back at a later date.
  5. If the phone is not eligible at all for the upgrade to Windows 10, you will see a screen informing you of the same.
  6. The update package will be pushed via FOTA directly to your device.
    • You will have the option to postpone or install the update immediately to your device.
    • The software update must be downloaded via a Wi-Fi connection; it cannot be downloaded over the AT&T network.
  7. If you select to postpone installation of the update, the notification will pop up again in about two days. The notification cannot be postponed permanently.
    Note: Software updates are not cumulative and do not include prior software updates. If you did not update your device with any prior released software updates, you will first be required to update with all preceding software updates before updating to the latest software update.


Impacts/Notifications

 

  • Your data buckets will not be impacted.
  • Notifications and update availability will be sent to you once the update has been made available.
  • Updates to the new software will take approximately 15–20 minutes to process depending upon Wi-Fi speeds.


Software Version Verification

 

  1. From the Start Screen, scroll down to and tap Settings > About > More Info.
  2. If the firmware revision matches the firmware revision number listed in the New Software Specifications section below, then the device has the latest firmware.
