Can I use Cricket Sim for ATT phone

I was wondering that if I were to purchase a AT&T HTC One M8 with out a plan or contract, could I use my Cricket Wireless sim card for the phone since Cricket Wireless is now merged with AT&T? Would I keep paying the same bill for Cricket or will there be a new bill?

Hi there, Community!

To simply answer your questions regarding Cricket to AT&T conversions:

  • Does an AT&T device need to be unlocked to work on the Cricket network? An AT&T device does not need to be unlocked to accept a Cricket SIM to work on the Cricket network.
  • Does a Cricket device need to be unlocked to work on the AT&T network? A Cricket device does need to be unlocked by Cricket to accept an AT&T SIM to work on the AT&T network.

If you prefer to join the AT&T family, you can find out how to bring your own phone, device, or number to AT&T.

Regarding unlocking your device in general, there are some general requirements for all unlock requests to use an AT&T phone on another cellular wireless provider, the phone will need to be unlocked. To unlock your device, it must meet the specific requirements below.

  • It must not be reported lost or stolen.
  • It’s not associated with fraudulent activity.
  • All the device’s service commitments and installment plans are completed, and all early termination fees are paid in full.
  • The device is not currently active on a different AT&T customer’s account.
  • If you performed an early upgrade, you must wait the 14-day buyer’s remorse period before you can request to unlock your previous device.
  • Visit our Unlock Support page for the full requirement list

Postpaid Customers

  • Your account must be active for at least 60 days, with no past due or unpaid balance.

How To Request A Device Unlock

  1. Go to our Device Unlock portal
  2. Select Yes if you are an AT&T Customer, No if you are not an AT&T customer.
  3. Enter your telephone # if you are an AT&T Customer. Enter your IMEI if you are a non-AT&T Customer.
  4. Follow the prompts.

Check the status of your request by:

  1. Go to our Unlock Status Portal
  2. Enter your IMEI Number & Request Number.
  3. Follow the prompts.

Just because Cricket merged with AT&T doesn't mean the you can use Cricket SIM on an AT&T phone. The phone would have to be unlocked for that to work.

You would have to unlock it but there are videos on YouTube explaining how to do so. If you follow the instructions it should be fairly easy or you could purchase an unlocked phone from Amazon.

I have a Moto G Stylus (2022) from Cricket, FL USA and moved to Guayama PR recently. Is there any ATT service in Puerto Rico? And if so, how can I switch to ATT? Thanks.

I'm a Cricket customer from Florida USA with a Moto G Stylus (2022) and moved to Guayama, Puerto Rico recently. I would like to switch to ATT if ATT still have service in PR? And if so, how can I switch to ATT? Thanks.

@noelmiranda1963 ATT no longer provides service in Puerto Rico. They sold their network in Puerto Rico to Liberty several years ago.
