AT&T Beam not detected on new Dell Precision Laptop with Windows 10

The Beam says "Ready to Connect".

ATT ALLACCESS says "Modem Unplugged".

I have version 10.1.305.2 installed.

Device Manager shows all devices installed properly.

I tried different USB ports.

What else can I do?

Greetings @zactly!

My apologies for the trouble you’ve had with your AT&T Beam!

It sounds like it’s not being detected. Was it picking up a USB connection on any previous or other computers?

It could possibly be a driver issue, but it’s hard to say for sure.

I would recommend opening the AT&T AllAccess program on your laptop, going to Settings > Support Tools, and selecting Run diagnostic tools! This is a great way to detect possible issues at work!

I hope you find that helpful! Have an amazing day, and thanks for being part of the Community Forums!

SOLUTION FOUND!

I have a new Dell XPS 15 and the Beam AirCard just wouldn't reconize.

First Problem.

The card restarts over and over with the ATT logo.

SOLUTION: buy a cheap USB hub, and plug the AirCard into it.  For some reason, the AirCard doesn't like the USB 3.0 ports on the Dell XPS.  After I did this, the card said "Ready to Connect".

Second Problem

The computer would no reconginze the device.

SOLUTION: Download the drivers from Netgear and manually instal them in the Device Manager.

Details:

Download the drivers and extract into folder on your desktop for ease of use. Hit Windows Key + X,  then choose Device Manager.  Look under Universal Serial Bus Controllers.  Then right-click, "USB Mobile Braodband Network Adapter Module", and choose "Update Driver Software". Then "Browse My Computer".  Then "Let Me Pick".  Then "Have Disk". Browse to downloaded drivers. Select Drivers->swnc8u00. Then choose "Sierra Wireless TRU-Install. Click YES to Install driver, even though its not recommended.  Now its says "Modem Detected".    Now just uplug the aircard and plug it back in and it WORKS!

Also, I made sure and download the Netgear AirCard Watcher.  It has a nice connect button when you're ready to go LIVE.

I have the same issue.  When I plug the AT&T beam into the Dell precision 7510, the AT&T logo flashes on and off and the card never connects  (It works when plugged into the port replicator, but that doesn't help me when I'm on the road and I need the card.)

Hey there @davidonelson!

I’m sorry to hear about the trouble with your Beam!

Have you tried any of the above suggestions?

It sounds like there may be a driver issue at work here as well, or something with the physical ports themselves.

Thanks for reaching out!

About "First Problem" mentioned above:

I ended up buying a portable USB hub, and that worked plugged into the USB 3.0 ports. But also I recently realized I can get past this problem by plugging the card directly into the USB 2.0 port on the left side of the dell precision 7510.

About the "Second Problem" mentioned above:

(1) I just now started having that problem. I discovered the card is still in "software installation mode" when this happens. It mounts a USB drive on the computer with software to install. If you "Eject" this drive, that triggered the card to work.

(2) Also I downloaded the Netgear Aircard Watcher. This software found the card to be in the "software installation mode" and let me switch the card to normal operation mode, which caused the card to start working.

(3) After doing these two things, it has started working normally again.
