Why does our service keep getting worse?

9 years ago, AT&T had the best service in this area. In the past 2 years, the service has continually went down hill. We have 2 bars at best for a few minutes, make a call and bam! One bar or "no service". What's even worse is on WiFi, it does it too. Apple engineers has, and is continuing to investigate. So far in three weeks, nada, zip, nothing. Our internet carrier, CenturyLink, same thing. I bought a prepaid Verizon iPhone 5 which being prepaid will not connect to wifi for calls. However, it ALWAYS has good service. Here at home and when compared side by side to the AT&T iPhone 7, every place we go in Florida. It is a shame. I have been with AT&T since they took over BellSouth in '06. I may be wrong but, their digital experiment failed. I also believe other companies are using the LIMITED resources AT&T has. The internet connection, both cellular and wifi are great. But we need a telephone! Just that simple. A telephone, period. And that is not going so good.

In rural Florida, AT&T is almost useless. Too bad and so sad, after giving you a full 12 months to get back to normal, you are getting worse.

Hi @BunBun56,

We greatly appreciate your  9 years of business and loyalty with us, I assure you. We want to make sure your service is performing optimally at all times. Please keep in mind, building materials, location of the towers and other factors may block the service.

Service issues is never a great experience to encounter. We have a wonderful Troubleshoot & Resolve tool which provides personalized support to fix any network or device issue. We recommend logging into your myAT&T account for even better results. This will allow our system to run tests to get this taken care of!

We also offer newever devices with the feature Wi-Fi Calling, which is a great way to help improve service. I personally use this feature and love how I am able to connect to any Wi-Fi network to receive coverage in a weak service area.

If this issue is intermittent I invite you to send us a private message to @ATTCare. We are always happy to provide additional support.

Have an amazing rest of your day!

I live in NJ and have been with AT&T for 7 years.  In the past 6 months my phone service has become dreadful, terrible connections and dropped calls have become the norm instead of the exception. What the heck happened.

I live outside of Sacramento and have used ATT wireless for about 17-19 years. Never had issues until the past year or so. I use to get 4-5 bars and great cell service now at home I get usually 1 bar 2 if I’m lucky. What’s going on? No it’s not building materials or any of the other crap they try to tell us. I haven’t changed a thing. It’s your service that’s getting worse. And no I shouldn’t have to use WiFi assistance to make calls either. Upgrade and your service. Might be time to switch! Unhappy customer that doesn’t seem to ever get any useful answers.

We're going to either Sprint or Verizon. I will see who wants us more and may pay off our 2 year contract. Both have everywhere around here. My wife and I own a Jeep and went into the Ocala National Forest yesterday afternoon and I got it stuck. I walked 4 miles and my phone was almost dead searching for service when two young guys came and had found my Jeep and wife, pulled it out and had 4 bars (Sprint) service. She tried calling me but the guys had to come find me.         Sprint was there but here's the funny thing. During my walk, ATT would show a bar every 15 minutes or so. I'd send texts because if I called, nothing happened and it went to No Service. By the way, we have been up the Pacific Highway, all of it, and ATT don't exist most of the way. In Florida, poor service in major cities, unless in the areas like where we live.

I vacationed recently in Ft. Lauderdale, FL and I had no service at my hotel. Over the past year service has gotten really crappy. I hate to switch because I have had AT&T for 20+ years. And I also use them for cable, streaming cable and internet. Those services work fine. Hate to have to switch my cell service but if no better when we pay our phones off just might have to.

I purchased a I phone x and then after about a week or two service went from good to bad . Text and internet is fine but the call quality is frustrating at best . Cuts in and out which has rendered the phone useless. At least  50 percent of the calls cut out bad. I paid a high price for the phone through at&t and pay my bill but get bad service. Why sell something that you can’t support . Makes a lot of since and my personal opinion and goal even if I have to get a attorney is to be compensated for my lack of service . After calling they said that it was the phone , apple saying it’s the service . Some one will give me a answer or we will be in court . I’m not afraid to shell out money to prove a injustice.

[Per Guidelines:  Keep it Relevant and Appropriate]. Apple has went to extreme measures to help me have better phone service. AT&T keeps sending me to webpages to read and what it boils down to is the same stuff. It looks as if the internet, games etc far outweigh phone calls for AT&T no matter what phone the customer has. For crying out loud, it is a telephone and the other functions, while being cool and handy sometimes, are not the main thing I want. Like most people, we have other devises more suitable for internet needs. Back when analog phone service was all we had, calls in and out were 90% better in virtually every way. My iPhone 7 will work on analog. It did last month in New Hampshire and and Vermont but I had no other services...Which was great! Why can't they do both and help us out with our far too expensive phones?? I can live without FaceBook on my phone but must be able to make and receive calls that actually perform as they are supposed to.

I have had a home in Rockville, IN, since 2005.  (latitude: 39.773, longitude: -87.052)  The coverage for both voice and data has declined dramatically in the past year.  Our (I am a retired employee) coverage maps indicate that I should have coverage.  I can't get data to connect, text messages fail or get delivered hours later, forget about sending pictures.. calls drop more often than not.  What has happened?  I use the Mark The Spot app, but have a feeling there is no one monitoring the other end.

Our tower in Colorado 81252, has been bad for over two years. weather it is just degraded or new equipment failed I do not know.

Everytime it rains the service goes away untill it drys out. I do not know if this is common, but should not these things be waterproof?

Even my microcell will not help when the tower stops working.
