What to do when AT&T map says I should have coverage, but in reality there is no coverage.

Twice this summer I was in a location where there was no cell phone coverage. All my phone said was "no service."

The first location was Caples Lake in California's Sierra Nevada. This is a very undeveloped area with a lot of mountains. It really didn't surprise me that there wasn't cell phone coverage EXCEPT that the map says there should be coverage.

The second location was the California coast between Bodega Bay and Jenner. All along this region and at the campground Wright's Beach, I also got the message "no service." AT&T's map suggests that this area should have SOME services available.

How do we hold AT&T accountable for making sure their maps ACTUALLY reflect the reality on the ground?

Good Afternoon @aranworld

Thank you for the great question! I looked on the map on ATT.com for the areas you are speaking of. After the search was completed, there is a hyperlink which says Compatible device required. When I clicked on this hyperlink, an explanation pops-up about the coverage and refers to the customer’s account.

Under the map of the locations you gave, there is a statement which states the map displays approximate outdoor coverage and actual coverage may vary. Coverage is not guaranteed and is subject to change without notice.

Weather will definitely play a part if there will be coverage on a certain day and time. The areas which are undeveloped may have roaming service, if your phone is set up to roam. If your phone is not set up to roam, or you have it shut off; your phone will show no service.

For future trips, we also have our Mark the Spot. When your phone is not working correctly, use Mark the spot and a report will be sent to AT&T. I hope this helps and if you have any other questions, reach out to us on the Community Forums.
