Roam North America - Turn on data roaming on phone?

Roam North America will be active the very moment it is added to your lines. It enables you to use your plan while in Mexico & Canada at no extra charge.

Data Roaming is an option in the phone. It allows your data to be used while roaming. With this setting off, you would still receive calls and texts, but will not be using data. However, you will still be able to connect to Wi-Fi to use for internet service.

When Data Roaming is on, you can use data on your phone while international. To add Roam North America to your lines, you will need to have the AT&T Unlimited plan.

If you did wish to use your services as little as possible, you can enable airplane mode to prevent the device from connecting with the networks.

@Mpjohns1 Just the opposite. Airplane mode on means no cellular service so you turn airplane mode on when on the cruise ship and airplane mode off when on land in Mexico.

Great question! Thank you @sandblaster for clearing that up; you’re correct!

You will need to have airplane mode turned On while you’re on the cruise ship, and turned Off while on land. In order to use your data while roaming on land; make sure you have Data Roaming turned On and you’ll be set to go!

@Mpjohns1 Yes, your phone will display the carrier you are connected to but you in Mexico it does not matter whether it is ATT or someone else. With Roam North America there are no roaming charges in Mexico no matter which carrier you connect to.

I can't tell from you answer if ATT customers are supposed to turn on the roam function on cellular data option. Can you specific if we are in Mexico, do we turn the roam button on or leave it off. Thank you in advance for your response.
