No service in rural area but coverage map shows 4G LTE
Greetings,
I spent the weekend at a family members house in rural GA between Folkston and St. George, and both my wife & I had no service at all. The coverage map for this area shows 4G LTE available, but we could not call or text. Our family members used to be AT&T customers also, but switched to another provider due to the lack of AT&T service in this area. Are there plans to improve coverage in this area?
This is not a phone issue since 2 different phones had the same issue and both started working properly as we left the area.

We certainly understand, @SteveB62.
Since you're no longer at the impacted location, we are unable to troubleshoot the issue. The next time you're in the area, we recommend walking through some troubleshooting steps in our Troubleshoot and Resolve tool. Just select your device and the issue that you're experiencing.
Also check out this forums post on Dropped calls & connectivity issues it has helped many customers who were experiencing a similar issue.
In the meantime you can use the Mark the spot app to mark locations that have service issues. The mark the spot app allows us to know where network improvements are needed. Thanks for reaching out to us.

Hello @SteveB62
Thanks for your post. We can definitely help you with network connectivity issues.
Dropped calls, failed call attempts, and poor call quality can occur for a number of reasons including terrain, weather, and foliage. Checking for network issues between Folkston, GA & St. George, GA - we can confirm network coverage is good. However it areas appears to be in the Okefenokee National Wildlife Refuge & Swamp so it maybe limited in spots.
While visiting your relatives in the area you can try Wi-Fi Calling as a solution. We hope this helps. We appreciate your business and would like to thank you for making AT&T your choice for Wireless & Entertainment

Thank you for your reply Kenneth. Wi-fi calling is an option if the supports it and we are in range of someone's wi-fi, but doesn't help when out of the house and out on the road. Again, we both saw "no service" over several miles of state road 121.

Makela I have the same issue in part of our area and have already posted a complaint however I just clicked your mark the spot link and it does nothing. If there is no signal in the area at all how can we access your site unless on someone's wifi? I really need to figure this out myself before we switch our service. Based on your map places that supposedly have 4G LTE there are dead spots in popular areas that cause dropped calls or inability to make calls use internet or text.. I don't think that you are as covered as your company says. We are not in the area this gentleman is we are between Athens Ga and Gainesville and have very spotty service along 129 from here to Gainesville.

Yes, same issue here in Boring Oregon. AT&T's website Coverage map says there is 4g coverage here but I do not get even 1 bar. I have lived here for 3 years and it has been the same since day 1 with every AT&T phone my guests or myself have had here. Is it a false representation of coverage, a marketing ploy to look better than they are in their online profile? Obviously this isn't just a Lusted Rd, Boring Oregon isolated incident. Wifi calling just isn't reliable enough for my needs. Even with WiFi calling enabled and full bars wifi signal and Cycling in and out of airplane mode as soon as I get home and it clearly says at the top of my phone "AT&T WIFI" I barely can get a call out, miss some calls and texts every day. When I drive up the road I get a flood of messages as soon as I enter the "real" coverage zone. I've been patiently waiting for AT&T to hopefully catch up to my area. But I'm not waiting any longer. I need a reliable phone.

That's too long to experience poor service, @Laceymaeturner!
We want to help you with that! Please reply to this message and verify your ZIP code so that we can look into what could be affecting service in your area.
Also, a step which may help with your Wi-Fi Calling is to disable Cellular Data while you're home. At times, when both features are enabled, they can conflict with each other resulting in poor to no service.
Use our Device Support Tool to learn how to disable Cellular Data. After finding your device's make and model, choose Connectivity followed by Signal & cellular data. Follow the instructions as presented.
Looking forward to your reply!
