No service in rural area but coverage map shows 4G LTE

Greetings,

I spent the weekend at a family members house in rural GA between Folkston and St. George, and both my wife & I had no service at all.  The coverage map for this area shows 4G LTE available, but we could not call or text.  Our family members used to be AT&T customers also, but switched to another provider due to the lack of AT&T service in this area.  Are there plans to improve coverage in this area?

This is not a phone issue since 2 different phones had the same issue and both started working properly as we left the area.

Re: No service in rural area but coverage map shows 4G LTE

Hello @SteveB62

Thanks for your post. We can definitely help you with network connectivity issues.

Dropped calls, failed call attempts, and poor call quality can occur for a number of reasons including terrain, weather, and foliage. Checking for network issues between Folkston, GA & St. George, GA - we can confirm network coverage is good. However it areas appears to be in the Okefenokee National Wildlife Refuge & Swamp so it maybe limited in spots.

While visiting your relatives in the area you can try Wi-Fi Calling as a solution. We hope this helps. We appreciate your business and would like to thank you for making AT&T your choice for Wireless & Entertainment

Thank you for your reply Kenneth.  Wi-fi calling is an option if the supports it and we are in range of someone's wi-fi, but doesn't help when out of the house and out on the road.  Again, we both saw "no service" over several miles of state road 121.

Re: No service in rural area but coverage map shows 4G LTE

We certainly understand, @SteveB62.

Since you're no longer at the impacted location, we are unable to troubleshoot the issue. The next time you're in the area, we recommend walking through some troubleshooting steps in our Troubleshoot and Resolve tool. Just select your device and the issue that you're experiencing.

Also check out this forums post on Dropped calls & connectivity issues it has helped many customers who were experiencing a similar issue.

In the meantime you can use the Mark the spot app to mark locations that have service issues. The mark the spot app allows us to know where network improvements are needed. Thanks for reaching out to us.
