No more roaming in Canada on Telus or Bell!
Regrettably, AT&T no longer allows roaming on Bell or Telus which means that coverage in the Yukon is now a joke. This is a huge deal for travelers on the ALCAN and Alaska residents. They’ve gotten in bed with Rogers, who has a much smaller footprint than Bell and Telus.
It really aggravates me that they still show all of this coverage on their Canada map!

This situation is new. Until recently, I was able to roam on Rogers, Telus, and Bell!
It worked great.

I had been using prepaid / pay as you go service in USA and Canada for more than 10 plus years.
They always like this. You cannot use each others cell towers.
You must be using postpaid????
This is interesting.........but not news to me .

Is there any update to this situation?
We are traveling to Alaska this summer with a large group (RV caravan) and we have ATT postpaid.
I was considering switching to ATT prepaid or Verizon and while researching this Canada roaming issue came up.
Any advice?

In Canada, with a branded phone, you roam automatically on Rogers. With a non branded phone you can often select another carrier. Alaska has good ATT postpaid service. Little to no prepaid service. Verizon has poor coverage in very few places, but Alaska is one of them.

As long as you are with AT&T postpaid ,Like @lizdance40 said,
you will be automatically roaming with Rogers wireless ,no matter a branded or non branded phones.
You may try and switch to Telus or Bell in a non Rogers service area with a non branded phone, but you may get kick out of the network within 5 to 10 mins and switch back to no service.
Yukon and NWT is always a bad area for coverage in Canada.

Thanks for the advice.
Out of these choices do you think ATT postpaid is the best for Canada/Alaska?
1. ATT postpaid
2. ATT prepaid
3. Verizon postpaid
4. Verizon prepaid
