Dropped calls and no service

For the past (at least) 6 months my cell service has been terrible. I've been with att for 11+ years, same time I bought my house. Never had a problem before and now I barely get to use my phone. I've called and reported the issue. The att rep ran diagnostics tests, checked tower locations and when she found no problems she instructed me to set my phone to cellular wifi. So now I have to use my data in order to make or receive a phone call? I did what she asked me to do and I still had dropped calls. 2 days after enabling the wifi cellular she texted me to see how it was working for me. I texted back a screenshot of my dropped call that shows wifi was on. I requested a booster. Then she dropped me. She stopped trying to help and she stopped responding to me. My contract is up next month. I don't want to change providers but after 11 years of being loyal to att and now getting absolutely no help from att I'm seriously considering it. I would really appreciate getting some help to correct this, get me a booster, do something. I'm paying for a service I barely get to use.

Good afternoon @ Laurie.r,

I’m so sorry to hear you are having service issues at home. This is without doubt a serious problem; personally I would be very distressed if I was not able to make calls while at my house. Luckily we do have some options at our disposal, and I would love to help you find a resolution here.

If it’s an issue in the area, other users must also be experiencing them. Is there another AT&T customer at the house that is having the same problems? This can help us narrow down where we need to start looking.

In the meantime, we do offer an excellent feature which can help alleviate your service issues. It’s similar in function to a booster, and it’s called Wi-Fi Calling. Basically it uses your home Wi-Fi (which is typically unlimited) to make and receive free calls, text messages and browse the Internet. Currently it is the preferred alternative for service issues, even more than a booster. In this link you can find instructions on how to enable it in your device, so long as it’s compatible.

I will also send you a private message shortly asking for some other details, but please do try this option first, just to see if we can improve your situation.

I hope you have a fantastic day, and thank you for using the Community Forums!

I enabled wifi calling 3 weeks ago and calls are still being dropped.
I requested a microcell and att won't help!
I am ready to switch providers if att refuses to fix this problem. I cannot use my phone for the purpose it was is intended for and at this point I'm extremely frustrated. There are many att customers in my area with the same problem. Some received a microcell and said it fixed the problem yet you all won't send me one.

Why is your suggestion to use the customers wifi? Is the responsibility of another broadband provider to supplement your wireless service. Why do you charge for Mcells for areas that have signal issues

Hello @Yobboy,

Wi-Fi Calling and the MicroCell device both use an internet source in order to help improve customer’s services. There are benefits of using one over the other, and I will be more than happy to share which may be best for you!

The MicroCell requires a connection to a broadband internet service to work properly and can store up to 15 numbers on its user list. This would improve connection at your home only, and be an excellent choice if your device is not Wi-Fi Calling capable. The MicroCell is available for purchase.

Wi-Fi Calling just requires a Wi-Fi internet connection. This means you can also improve your service in locations other than your home. Your device would need to be able to support the feature and you can view an available list here. One of the main benefits of Wi-Fi calling, is there is no cost associated with it.

Let me know if you have any additional questions or concerns!

I fail to see how you addressed anything I asked. My question wasn't "how does a mcell work" or how does WiFi calling work". Just another in a series on of non-answers I come to expect from your company!

Hi @Yobboy,

I apologize I wasn’t more specific in my answer. Your at-home internet connection is what will help boost your signal. Either method you choose will be able to increase your signal at home. This will depend on your internet service as well to pick up the slack where the towers are not able to provide proper coverage. Since the MicroCell is a piece of hardware, there is a cost associated with it. This is why we suggest the free option of Wi-Fi calling for newer devices.

These options are not meant to be a permanent solution to your coverage issues and are to help us work towards finding a resolution and cause for any service issues you may be experiencing.

If you would like to go more in depth with these options and any coverage problems you are experiencing, You can send me a private message to @ATTMobilityCare with your full name, mobile number, and best time and method to get in contact with you.

Thank you for reaching out with your questions!

I am having the same problem since I signed up for AT&T 18 stand alone internet.  I do not get a signal on my cell phone here at my house, so I must use WiFi Calling.  When I had TWC (Spectrum) I had no issues with my cell phone calls.  Since I have signed up with AT&T (2 months now) my calls are dropping constantly!  It is most frustrating and in my case serious as this is my only means of emergency communication.  I am truly regretting signing up with this internet service provider.

What if the user doesn't have access to WIFI?  What about when a user is not in a building and still needs data access???
