Denver Metro Area Towers

Any idea when the towers in the Denver area will have the 2G equipment removed and replaced with 4G/LTE?

Suppoesdly this was supposedly to be happening in early 2017....

Hi there @JohnnyDoe,

Thanks for sending us a private message!

I checked the network coverage in your area. The good news is about 80% of the towers are broadcasting 3G and 4G LTE. It appears 2G technology has already been removed. I made sure to check both ZIP codes you provided me and you should be receiving 4G LTE!

You can use Wi-Fi calling if your device is enabled to use it. It’s a free feature which boosts your signal just by being connected to Wi-Fi! Another way we can optimize the coverage in your area is by using our free Mark the Spot app. We utilize the feedback to better target network optimization and enhancements.

Sometimes the kind of phone you’re using can be a factor in regards to network bands and technology type. We can also look at this together if you would like!

Have a great rest of your day.

Hello again @JohnnyDoe!

Wi-Fi Calling should not require the phone to be placed in Airplane mode, this is definitely odd.  Let’s find out what is going on.

Has it always behaved this way? I’d recommend making sure Wi-Fi Assist isn’t turned on under Settings > Wi-Fi (scroll all the way down). This particular setting forces your phone to connect to whichever connection is stronger, which is why it may be preferring cellular.

As a secondary step, you can reset your network settings under Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings. Please keep in mind this step will erase all your Wi-Fi passwords!

I appreciate the positive feedback by the way!

Hi there @JohnnyDoe,

I understand your anticipation for new service, I’m the same way!

Our 2G technology has already been retired which is good news as far as expanding our network. The towers in your area should be in progress already, or beginning to soon. However, I can take a deeper look for any future plans in your area on my side.

If you’d like for me to check on this with you, please send us a private message at @ATTMobilityCare. Be sure to include your name, phone number and a good time to contact you.

I hope to hear from you!

Thanks for the info -- definitely use the Mark the Spot app a lot so and it's come in quite handy with the feedback I've received while continually using it! Also, I use wifi calling but struggle with on my iPhone 7 Plus unless I force the phone into airplane mode then turn wifi alone on (with cellular on it's like Apple devices prefer to use cellular whenever possible for calling).

It's pretty much always been this way... I have wifi assist off (always have) and have reset my network settings.

Typically what's happening is the phone will be connected to wifi calling and no matter how close or how far I am from the wireless route (usually pretty close) it will random switch between wifi calling to cellular... which creates this lovely 3-5 second pause where I can't hear anything and neither can the person on the other line I'm talking with. It's extremely frustrating and this switching can happen multiple times during a conversation.

As I said above, the only way I've been able to truly resolve it is to turn airplane mode on and then manually turn wifi on -- this way, it doesn't flip/flop back and fourth between networks.
