Corporate VPN issues using hotspot

I have been using my att hotspot to connect my laptop to a corporate vpn. In the last month or so my corporate vpn has issues disconnecting every 8-10 seconds and reconnecting. This only happens when I connect my laptop to att wireless hotspot. I do not notice this issue when I connect to another hotspot or other WiFi networks. I am using an iPhone 7. Is there something going on with the att wireless network and using VPN on mobile hotspots from my phone?  Any help would be appreciated

Hello,

 

We are having this issue recently. We have 792 unite 2 hotspot that will not allow cisco anyconnect vpn to connect, says connected then drops 5 seconds or so later.

 

Di you have a resolution to this?

Unfortunately no. This is clearly an att issue as I connect fine on every other WiFi network. Att, is there an actual phone number I can call for technical support to debug?

I'm having this same issue. Cisco Anyconnect (our vpn) reconnects every 8 seconds or so. My IT stated it is the fault of ATT. They recommend switching carriers. Is there anything ATT can do so that I won't  have to switch?

You'll need to modify the MTU settings.  I set mine to 1320 and that appeared to do the trick.  See reply #15 for the commands you'll need to run  in windows.  If you're using MacOS or Linux, you may have to google how to change your MTU settings.

I am having this same issue with an At&t hotspot and Cisco AnyConnect. It only happens with an At&t hotspot, works fine with Verizon and Sprint. I have tried multiple At&t hotspots with the same results. The started happening to me around August. Actually, I can install the Cisco AnyConnect VPN Android app, and when I establish a connection to my Company's VPN, the phone will not pass any traffic - but if the phone is on Wi-Fi, it works flawlessly. This is only happening when using At&t's mobile network. This is absolutely an At&t problem that they need to address.

 

I tried the MTU setting change and it has done nothing for me.

Also having the same issue from my phone's hotspot and from my home internet (also AT&T LTE-based) to my company's VPN (Cisco Anyconnect).  Worked for years until about two weeks ago.  I can connect to the VPN no problem and then use the connection for a minute or so, but then then transfer rates periodically drop to zero.  On some occasions the VPN will also disconnect.  This makes remote desktop nearly unusable, but the issue occurs with any VPN traffic.  When VPN is off, I have excellent, sustained transfer rates and good ping times.  I have another personal, paid VPN service (similar to Nord VPN) that works fine.  A friend at work has confirmed this on a similar company laptop configuration with his AT&T hotspot on the same corporate VPN.

 

Unfortunately changing the MTU did not work for me (instructions in post #9 above).  It appears Anyconnect automatically updates the MTU, so when I would reduce the MTU, Anyconnect would automatically pick a lower value than what I set.  Or could this still be an issue?  I'm no expert at this.

 

Another thread pasted below shows the same issue being resolved by changing the VPN UDP port from 443 to 1194, since apparently AT&T uses 443 for their UVerse service causing conflicts.  See post #s 4 & 7.  But I doubt my IT dept will entertain this.

I have used the following to fix the "VPN Drops every 5 seconds or so issue"- You can manually set the MTU on your computer to 1320.

1. Run cmd as an administrator

2. Run the command netsh interface ipv4 show subinterface

3. Type netsh interface ipv4 set subinterface "Wi-Fi" mtu=1320 store = persistent

 

Try that and see if it works.

 

Unfortunately, back about 11 October, I started running into another issue where it would connect and stay connected, but it would only pass and receive traffic for about a 3 minutes before going dead (still showing connected, but not receive any traffic)  According to Anyconnect, it would receive the first control frame, but none past that.  After not receiving control frames for a few minutes, the system no longer receives any data and the distant end of the VPN shows that they're connected and sending, but not receiving any data from my computer.

The "solution" (link) posted  above does not work. I had this exact problem. What does work is turning your bluetooth off on your phone while using the hot spot.
