Hello Community,

We have been reading through this thread, and appreciate the feedback and comments included.  We also want to thank all the posters who have been jumping in and trying to help answer questions and provide support.

There is a lot of great information included in this thread, but we wanted to make sure one troubleshooting step was called out, so it isn’t missed.

  • A common issue is that some or all LTE service may be toggled to ‘off’ within the device settings inadvertently.  This can cause both voice and data issues depending on the device.

 To Resolve:

  • First:  Determine if the device is “HD Voice-capable” (a.k.a. “LTE Calling”, “VoLTE”, or “Voice over LTE”)
  • Second:  For those experiencing loss of Voice and/or Data service, check the following settings and then power cycle the device.
    • Apple - based on iOS version:
      • Settings->Cellular->Cellular Data Options->Voice & Data->LTE (select LTE option)
      • Settings->Cellular->Cellular Data Options->Enable LTE (select LTE option)
      • Settings->Cellular->Cellular Data Options->Enable LTE->Voice & Data (select Voice & Data option)
    • Android
      • Go to Settings > Connection > Mobile networks > Enhanced LTE services and select on.

Once complete, please ensure you power your phone off and back on to establish a fresh connection with the network.

Thanks everyone, and please let us know if we can assist further.

Hi @Dilinds!

Not having the option of making phone calls in case of emergencies is definitely a reason for concern. I’m very sorry to hear this part of your service is not working properly, let’s work on getting it fixed as soon as possible!

I checked the area and there doesn’t seem to be an outage with any of the towers. However, since both devices are having problems, it could be an emerging issue. We have a great tool which can help eliminate possible causes for this. Please click on our AT&T Troubleshoot & Resolve, select your device from the list, and then choose Phone Calls under Service/network issues.

If it’s still not fixed after following those steps, I recommend using our Wi-Fi Calling service. This will enable you to have service as long as you are connected to your home Internet. Not all devices are yet compatible, but the most popular ones are! If the problem is an outage, it’s typically resolved within 24 to 72 hours, and rest assured our engineers are working on it diligently!

I hope this resolves your issues, and thank you for reaching out! Have a wonderful rest of your week!

I am having the same issue driving down to Las Vegas on US-95 for the last two weeks from Fallon NV to Tonopah NV. The only thing I have noticed is that I am off network which seems to only affect phone calls incoming and outgoing. Text and data work. I have an S8 and this was never a problem in the past. This has to change do to work or I will have to change to a service that works.

Same issue here in NY, told I need to buy a 3g phone or get a new phone for 5g. My current phone is 3g, 4g, and 4glte capable. It's their way of forcing you to get a new phone for the new service without compensating you for the service you currently can't use which you're paying for. Happens every time a tower gets upgraded. It's actually a common thing between all the major companies but IMO att is the leader with shady practices mainly because they consistently get caught. In the end not much we can do.  It's either phone or no phone and att is the main provider in the area so...yay

What make and model phone are you using?

Not sure you understood what you were told.  Because what you wrote isn’t right.

AT&T has already shut down 2g.  New activations of 3g only phones will not be allowed as 3g will be shut down as well.  You must have a phone capable of VoLTE, voice over LTE.   So a 4g/LTE phone.

There is no 5g phones for AT&T, and almost no 5g service areas.  So that’s wrong.

To get Volte, you need an iPhone 6 or newer, at&t branded android running marshmallow or newer or a pixel 3/3xl

a small handful of other androids do have Volte.  My oneplus 6t is enabled.

My phone is Oneplus 6 but AT&T does not allow Volte with Onplus, they wanted me to buy a new iPhone to use Volte.

Kept my Oneplus 6 and switched to T-Mobile, problem solved.

Hello all, I just got done having a similar issue. I have a moto g6 and I was able to access data on 4g LTE and receive and send MMS messages but no phone calls. After a week of calling tech support and waiting on call backs which didn't come, I finally got a great tech rep at ATT (Tammy from Lubbock)

She troubleshot with me and found 2 things wrong: 1) my APN settings were wrong so we updated and fixed them 2)my IMEI for some reason was not an IMEI for a 4g LTE phone so she updated it with an IMEI that matched the capabilities of my phone.

Once these two things were done (and of course a lot of phone reboots) I am back in business.

Thank you Tammy in Lubbock :)
