Will I loose my number if I don't refill within a certain date?

Long story short, I have been in the US a few times as a visitor and every time I came I had to get a sim card for my mobile, last time (in 2014) I got a number I would like to keep and the guy at the AT&T point, back then, told me the card expires if I don't refill the credit.

Since am not going to the US since then I asked a friend to refill and now I have a 200+$ balance and still wondering if I have or not to refill to keep the number and/or what should I do not to loose it, can somebody enlighten me about this issue?

Thank you so much

Giovanni

p.s. mine is a prepaid GoPhone sim card

Good morning @GiovanniAprea!

It’s understandable not wanting to lose your existing number, after all it’s always a hassle to have to get a new SIM card and let everyone know you have a new one. Allow me to put your concerns to rest.

The balance on a GoPhone account does have an expiration date, based the amount of money that was added to it. However you have enough money in there to last for a long time! The expiration dates are as follows:

  • Between $10 to $24 – will expire in 30 days
  • Between $25 to $99 – will expire in 90 days
  • More than $100 – will expire in 365 days
Once the expiration occurs, the line will be canceled completely after 60 days

As you can see, with the amount of money you have in the account right now the number will remain with you for a year and 60 days, after which time it will expire. If you make another payment as you go past the one year mark, the expiration date will be pushed further back.

I hope this answers your questions, and have a great rest of your week!

Let me first and foremost thank you for such a detailed reply, now back to my concerns.

I am not using my sim card since 2015 if I recall correct and last year, about mid Februarly, I asked a friend to refill it as to make sure I can keep the number for another year, at this moment in time the balance is in the 200$ range and in a few days it's going to be a year since it was topped with more credit, when should I add more to keep it for another year and how much should I add to make sure I can rest assured for the next 12 months?

Sorry for bothering and thank you so much for your kind reply

As long as you have a positive balance, you don't need to add anything. So keep an eye on your account balance. Once it goes to $0, then you have 60 days to refill before the account is closed and you lose the number. To hold it for another year you need to add at least $100.

So, given my balance being $200 or something like that I can sleep between two pillows (no, I wish they were the meaty soft ones, just regular pillows 😞 ), is that correct?

I will come and check from time to time, thank you so much for your kind reply, great service!!!

Good morning,

sorry if I resurrect this thread but for some weird reason I can log in into the AT&T forums but not to the website where I can check my prepaid sim card balance, how do I retrieve the password from outside the US since my card doesn't work here in Italy and as such I can't get a new temporary password through a text message?

I always have the same issue which is to check if the mobile number is still active and the balance so I can eventually add more to keep the number.

Thank you

Unfortunately, you can not log into or manage your prepaid account from outside the US. There is no way to get a new pin other than by receiving it on your phone, which must be on the ATT network. Even if you could get the new pin, you still won’t be able to login from outside the US. If you have not changed your pin, perhaps you can get your US friend to check your account. Another option is to contact @ATTMobilityCare via private message.

I didn't mean to log in through my mobile and the AT&T sim card but from a computer so that I can check if my card is still alive and how much left before I do eventually need to add more credit to make so I keep the number.

I guess the secure alternative is to hand the card to somebody who goes to the US and ask to have it checked whilst there but I would still like to understand why my password doesn't allow me to log in any longer as to perform checks off the website.

Grazie

I don’t know exactly how ATT does it, but the website does not allow login from any source outside the US.
