Porting landline number without DSL interruption to DSL

I sent a PM to customer service about a week ago, but haven't received a response.

My situation and question are as follows:

I presently have both landline phone and DSL service with AT&T.  To save money, I am considering switching my AT&T landline phone service to a VOIP provider.

How do I go about porting my present AT&T landline phone number to a new carrier, while still maintaining my present DSL?  I can have a new landline provider handle the porting, but I want to make sure that my DSL service is not interrupted.  I want the operation to go smoothly, without hassle.

Although this question has been discussed earlier on this forum, I haven't seen a step by step outline of the procedure.

Thanks for any advice.

modelman,

I found this discussion in the forums which is similar to yours. I'm not sure if it's the same discussion that you found but is very informative.
